Wouldn't cloudflare have prevented this from happening? I believe the old admin was behind it at some point, but not for long - I wonder why. I'm using it on all my sites and it works very well for me.
wordpress/etc leaks IP's and such in the emails so it's a bit of a pain to work around. LEA did have it behind cloudflare but I don't know how welll it worked for him. I do know he had issues with the leaking at first.

If you need a bottle of shampoo as a plug, you should probably stop using the blue battering ram.
CloudFlare tends to simply turn off their proxying if you're getting DDoSed.
