Rackdog Review

Hi, I'd like review rackdog , since they don't have review yet?
I just recently bought their holiday dedicated server

Dual Intel Xeon E5-2650v2 (2.60GHz x16)
Memory: 64GB DDR3
Hard Drive: 480GB SSD
Transfer: 30TB on 10G (Unmetered Incoming)
Location: Ashburn, VA
$30/mo – Promo Code “2650HOLIDAY”

I was surprised to see that promo was still working.
I was sad when I found out that they don't accept paypal. Someone here directed me to use privacy.com for stripe. So I finally got a server.

The customer service is really nice! I asked for a OS reinstall twice free within a short period, because no IPMI. They didn't get angry or annoyed. Acted very professional!

I have yet to do anything on the server yet, except install fail2ban, but with these specs, I can do a lot later down the line.

I am a little concerned about the network speed though? Unless this is normal for a 10G internet. I don't really know what busy stands for a yabs. Unless it's self explanatory.

Comments

  • You are 100% on a shared 10g port. Thats why. Nobody in their right mind would sell a dedicated server on a dedicated 10g port with that amount of bw for such low price.

Nice to see someone else decided to grab the offer as well, probably best price vs quality+performance I've come across in long time. I've had the server mostly idling since December. Has been solid so far, nothing to complain about. On my machine, network seems to give really stable performance globally. Yabs + peakperf for comparison:

  • i wonder how much of that 10Gbit capacity they have.

Because I can totally use up the entire 10 Gbit pretty quickly.

What I checked earlier it seemed all their baremetal was 30TB 10Gbps. They were operating from their own datacenter space offering something like IP transit up to 100Gbps so there was obviously more available for quote

Took another look, especially on peeringdb and BGP data.

    Looks... interesting.

  • Honestly some of the best customer service I've seen, also picked up one of their Holiday offers. Their staff are extremely flexible with requests, and very timely. Can also say on average getting about 5gbps to AWS.

And let's be real here, on most 10gbps hosts, I've gotten maybe 2gbps? Especially at this price point.

It really is a great deal and my interaction with customer service has been amazing, but I am confused. Why does the other yabs in this post show over 1gbps for every location. While mine shows less than 1gbps in some locations. I've seen it go as low as 200mb/s.

I haven't used the server, just idling, but I feel something is wrong here with the network... well on the server I am using anyways.

I had a plan to use it for something, but the network is so inconsistent on this server. Not saying anything wrong with the company, it's just comparing those yabs with my yabs, something is definitely wrong. Again, "not with the company", but with this specific dedicated server.
