[REVIEW] HostSlim Datacenter Woerden

Greetings, and welcome to my review of HostSlim Datacenter Woerden.

To start off with the datacenter has a excellent building, and security. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I am a colocation customer currently of them, and I really enjoy the service being provided by them. The colocation consists of premium bandwidth and my own IP space was routed instantly without having to pay anything!

The person I've met when placing the servers, was directly the owner of HostSlim. A friendly, and helpful person who helped me to get everything up and running without any hassle. Their DDoS protection seems to be just average for the price, but I am routing my own network over there. Their base network seems to be operating fine, without any big downtime.

You can be assured a high quality datacenter if you were to search for colocation, so I would recommend it.

In my opinion, a 5 star rating for the price / quality ratio.

Good for you. My experience with them upto now is between 0 and 1 star. So to look from the positive side: there is room for improvement. Lots of room.

Can you say why you have such bad expierience with them?

Sure, and Ralph of Hostslim knows exactly what I'm talking about because I've pointed them out to him, some of them several times. He had enough of possibilities to sort them out before I put them here. And I understand that people are busy because of a move from Almere to Woerden, but if you have the time to install new customers, you could also take care of customers you already have.

    • Offer doesn't match what has been provided. In particular, the offer was for Almere with an access card, so 24/7 access. Afterwards it is "an access card costs you money". That sucks because it was one of the things I've chosen them. And yes, I know access will be available after a move to Woerden, but that wasn't foreseen when started.
    • After almost 4 months of service, IPv6 is still not available. Asked for it several times, heard "will be arranged this week" several times, and now it is "will be available after moving to Woerden". It's more the lack of understanding that for a customer this is an issue that frustrates me: not getting what is promised.
    • Almost 2 weeks ago I had a problem. Ticket for that is suddenly gone. After pointing it out in another ticket, that ticket isn't answered yet, but instead it is merged with a complete different ticket that was still open. And still without an answer.
    • By coincidence I hear that they will move Almere to Woerden. When asked when that will take place (because of preperations) you hear "most likely next Sunday or Tuesday". So you prepare for Sunday, send them response that you will turn off the server so they can transport it, and you hear nothing. After 3 hours of downtime (but the IPMI is still online, so server is not disconnected yet) and a phonecall it is "No, it won't be transported, and when it will be we don't know yet". That makes me a bit pissed off, especially when the reaction is "yeah, but we communicated 'most likely'". When the move is off, you communicate with customers that it is off. A new moment of transport hasn't been given yet - so the most important stuff (the things I placed the server for) aren't running at them at this moment, because I don't know what the next step will be. Basically money down the drain for me.

Small things I don't mention because I still think that small mistakes can be made everywhere, and we are on LET here, so don't expect the best of the best. But they did affect my overall feeling about them.

Basically with Hostslim my experience is "if it's working it's OK. If you're having a problem or need something, it's like going to a casino". As I said: lots of room for improvement, but for me they definitely need to improve a lot.

Sad to hear that, I will keep this in mind.

Can you say why you have such bad expierience with them?

If I am correct the Woerden datacenter does not have any keycards and is always with a code where you can enter it with. No card can be sold, since it's literally not possible to sell them. Not sure where you've gathered this information from?

Sad to hear, I've routed my own spaces and network to them so I can not give any reply for that.

    • Almost 2 weeks ago I had a problem. Ticket for that is suddenly gone. After pointing it out in another ticket, that ticket isn't answered yet, but instead it is merged with a complete different ticket that was still open. And still without an answer.

Their website really bugs out sometimes (WHMCS moment), with the result of people not being able to login or manage invoices or even managing their tickets. Not justifying this, and I've already pointed it out. They are resolving this within a few days.

I feel like they have been improved. You can give them a second change if you want to give it to them. You can not really complain for the offer, but I agree it needs to be realistic to the customer. For me it was.

All by all thanks for your reply, I will keep some things surely in my mind.

Woerden is a new addition for Hostslim, because they move out from Almere. When I started, the offer was for Almere, my server is still there at this moment, and there the facilities are different and keycards are used there. How I gain access I don't care, as long as I'm able to have access to my server whenever needed, and not having to wait for someone to be available (potentially Monday morning when you experience a problem on Friday evenening) to provide access.

That's only part of it. For me, I can't understand why you would want to merge different tickets of one customer, that don't have a direct relation other than the client. Especially when both issues aren't resolved yet, keeping track of tickets will get difficult.

I feel like they have been improved. You can give them a second change if you want to give it to them. You can not really complain for the offer, but I agree it needs to be realistic to the customer. For me it was.

As stated before: they have a lot to improve. That, for me, is still a sign I hope things get better; most stuff is not day-to-day service related, so I still hope that when everything is solved, I'll be satisfied. But I don't get the feeling in the quite short (4 months) period that I have experience with them, lots have changed. Especially not regarding communication.
