ServerAvatar Alternative?

Hello Fellow LETers,

I am looking for an alternative for ServerAvatar's managed services. They no longer support the Newbie plan and the pro plan is a bit too pricey for me atm. Is there any better or equivalent alternative to them?

Budget is $2-$3/month/server max

  • Moss.sh

  • +1 for moss.sh. Learning curve is a bit steep, especially when you need to install non-PHP applications. I haven't used ServerAvatar, so can't do a direct comparison. Have moss.sh running on a few servers, it has been a breeze so far. (I am on the free plan)

How many servers do they support on the free plan?

  • @Dazzle @abytecurious I thought Moss.sh had closed shutter. I had read some news in the past. How is it going for you?

  • Is ServerAvatar same as installing panels on a VPS? Or is it different from panels like Aapanel, Cyberpanel, VestaCP?

  • You can try cloudpanel.io

Yes. After they announced its closing, a company (undisclosed) bought them and keep it running until today.

Had 2 VPSes running on Moss, WordPress blogs, running well.

    The former.

  • gridpane.com, free for 25 sites. Pricey if you are not an early adopter. The latest BF deal is $650/year for Panel Plan.
enhance.com, $0.15 per site. They should consider change the name, I forget their name every time.
Cloudpanel.io, free. I haven't used them, but from the comments I see, it's good.

you can try Managevps.net :) can offer 4$/m for 5 Servers and unlimited domains

  • Limited to Vultr and DO, tho. I really miss the golden days of ServerPilot, before they got greedy.

I’m using RunCloud for bigger projects and HestiaCP (free) for smaller to medium projects.

They seem limited to which server companies you can use.

Never had an issue. Used many smaller providers here on LET. OVH, Hetzner and many more over the years. But for those providers they don't integrate directly with you can just run the installer yourself.

  • cloudpanel.io is looking interesting I might give a shot, anyone has any good feedback of it?

very good in my opinion!, one of the products that I really wouldn't mind paying, do join their discord if you plan to use and need help to troubleshoot.

  • I'm wondering how cloudpanel.io make money to provide their free service?
    what is their business model?

There's absolutely no limit to provider as far as it's ubuntu and kvm. I think it's one of the best you can get.

They do not; once you are logged in and try to upgrade - you only see two plans - free and pro. Upon asking customer support, they said they had discontinued the newbie plan. I don't know why they're not updating the pricing page.

Thank you for letting me know about moss.sh. I just tried them, and although they are okay but ServerAvatar is relatively very easy to manage and has tons of other options as well. I might have to suck it up and pay ServerAvatar.
