ebay is too expensive, try facebook market.

I haven't looked on facebook marketplace, I'll go do that right now ๐Ÿคฃ Might get a homeserver in the future, who knows?

Then go to Amazon and buy a good one.

I don't think you want an old one inside your house, noisy. But there's also an advantage: If you have one server at home, you don't need a heater in the winter anymore. It gonna be really really hot, be careful about heatstroke.

We will be doing more of these :) We need some demand.

I'm thinking of a more low-power server, something less than 100W. We'll see though!

  • People are resources hungry here :D

Sheesh I still have a Ryzen 1600 desktop pc build back in 2018 as a server in my living room. I think it used about 65W ish.

Howdy howdy @FrankZ! How was your Thanksgiving?

Wow, you guys are up to page 846, I expect you are going to set a new record on this thread. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving as well. :) Being in Mexico, we do not do Thanksgiving, but the homemade pizza I had on Thursday was really good. Made two and the wife and I ate them both through out the day. Sorry to be missing the party this weekend, as I have some commitments, but I should be back after the rush is over.

I bet that sales are through the roof. I wonder how many nodes are you running these days. I expect that is a closely held secret, but I going to make a guess at 463 anyways, maybe you will tell me if I am close. :)

Thank You sir! Glad you had a good day nonetheless. On my side, the family and I had a great time. Tons of food -- turkey with mashed potatoes, stuffing, mac and cheese, corn bread, and pumpkin pie. ๐Ÿ˜‹ The kids had a great experience too, which is the best part about it all.

I'll have to look and see exactly what we have globally across all locations nowadays but its definitely much more than that if you're looking at all locations. We have dedicated physical servers for shared hosting infrastructure too, in addition to our bare metal offerings, so its not just VPS nodes that we deploy physical servers for within the DC's.

I think if I were to build a home server, I'd probably go with an older Xeon CPU to save a bit. Or I could always just use my raspberry pi, run it 24/7, attach a few external drives and call it a day ๐Ÿ˜†

You have a truly amazing ability to not sleep. :)

You too, didn't you stay up for 36 hours at a time? (or was that someone else ๐Ÿ˜†)

I did it again between Thursday noon and six am Saturday. Way too many things going on right now.

I'm happy that you had a good turkey day. It is great that you take the time to have those experiences with the kids. I have always felt they are some of the best memories when you get old. Time spent with family is never wasted.

So more then 463 servers, that is great. You guys have really grown fast over the last couple of years. It says a lot that you have been able to keep up the level of customer service that you have while growing at that speed, Kudos.

P.S. I really like pumpkin pie, but it is so hard to get here.

I have an old Dell R310 that I bought for $1. Had to add memory, drives and an upgraded controller. It works well for what I need it to do. Put on ESXi and it does a good job.

Old servers can be bought for little cash, get some used SAS drives and you're in business.

Right now I have RAID 5 4x2, so 6TB. I want to get at least some 6TB drives for it. 18TB would be sufficient for my needs

Auction (not eBay). I believe it was actually part of a multi-item lot. Cost me a whole lot more for the memory and drives. If you watch some online auctions you can snag some really good deals.

  • You have to be careful with auctions, of course. Set out a limit, don't go above it. Don't get caught up in a bidding war. I've seen things go for much more than they could have gotten it for on Amazon.

Which platform if not ebay? I found auction.com but it's a website selling houses.
