Compile from sources

Already did but MySQL 5.1 is causing issues with PHP4
"Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)"
although MySQL is running, its set to have OLD_PASSWORD in config and I have manually reset the old password mysql and flush'd/restarted the mysql
any help?
does /tmp/mysql.sock exist ?
change my.cnf to listen there
It turns out its a known bug in PHP 4.4.9; changing "localhost" to "127.0.0.1" works!

I feel sorry for you tbh

@sundaymouse @Gerrard8
and I feel sorry for the customer who got ripped off by his developer (the one who created/sold the pathetic PHP4 script)
He must be literally locked in the times lol. PHP 4 is ridiculously old!
@Gerrard8 TELL ME ABOUT IT, have been spending the last 3-4 hours setting this up for him
If you are willing to use cPanel I believe cPanel + cloudlinux has a plugin to let the user choose whatever php version that they choose to run.
@FlipHost I believe cPanel discontinued PHP4 in 2012 and they do not support it anymore

ISPConfig3 supports multiple PHP versions on one server including a mix of PHP 4.4.9 (Fastcgi only for 4.4.9) and PHP 5.3/5.4 (FPM orFastcgi). It also allows you to let the user choose which version to run on their site.
