    Unfortunately, unless I want to switch to a dish, they have a monopoly on the area. However, this provider is better than the other provider nearby, who has a monopoly on that area...

    The area that I live in also has a monopoly, the rates are pretty high but we can’t really do anything about it.

    Yeah, it's kind of wild the stuff they seem to be able to get away with. Thankfully the prices aren't too ridiculous for what I'm getting, but they have been slowly raising the prices for no reason whatsoever.

    I don’t understand why ISP monopolies are allowed. It would be nice if they had competition, so they actually have to fight for customers instead of taking advantage of customers.

    Completely agree. I had hoped that Google Fiber would turn out to be that competition, but I think that ship may have sailed

    I wish we also had google fiber in our area, gigabit would be so nice 😄 but our provider only has gigabit download and like 50Mbps upload for almost quadruple the price

    So I was commenting to the wife about the internet speed conversation. And she said that there is a new service that offers 500 Mb/s down 50 Mb/s up for about $50 a month. The issue is, and why she has not told me about it before, is that most people who have the service say it is very unreliable and down a lot. I'll check it out and see.
    Woot maybe I can get into the first world internet soon. :)

    you could use 2 connections for reliability i guess... not perfect...
