Iran Location

Hello
I'm thinking of providing hosting service with servers located in Iran.
What do you think? Is there any demand for VPS or dedicated servers?
Any cooperation is also welcome.

Comments

  • I think that you’re thinking about providing servers in Iran.

  • Also, surely there is demand, you just have to do things better than the existing options.

I suspect that there's a need for reliable and competitively priced services inside Iran, but I'm not sure that there are many people outside Iran who would be willing to pay non-competitive prices for services inside Iran, especially not at the current time, with all of the unrest there. (Just my perspective)

It's hard to find one that accepts international payment/crypto.
do they have problems with payment?

hmm yeah. But I think there are some niche use cases that only Iran location can provide

Accessing internet & network from inside Iran, contents banned in the West (but not porn). Good latency to middle east, Russia, India, Europe. Copyrights and so on

really? what about copyrighted contents? inciting violence? so called "terrorist" contents. Not that I agree with these, but just for the sake of proving the point

For hosting such content, maybe. Like another bulletproof host.

The real issue is that business dealings with Iran, Iranian companies, and Iranian persons may be against the law in many countries due to various sanctions. Not only you could be affected by the regulations and laws, but the same applies to your customers who do business with you. Your customers would also be impacted by their purchases of your Iran-based services, and possibly even their customers.

There are specific rules and exceptions, which vary by country, making the situation even more complex.

For example, the United States recently carved out an export exception for providing communications aids to the Iranian people in support of protests against the current government. The exception specifically excludes the Iranian government and other entities. See:

Sometimes you are not charged with violations, but your government is aware of your activities. The government may use them against you in the future, added them on or using them as a negotiation tool if you are charged with other crimes, that sort of thing.

Before starting out, consult with a competent export attorney. The advice you get depends strongly on where you live. Knowing the laws and regulations may be an important, essential tool.

I mean no, violence is not banned. I guess copyright can be an issue, but I don’t think Iran couldn’t be pressured either itf you’re hosting like a large torrent site or something.

You said block, implying the content couldn’t be seen, I have nothing blocked.

I said ban, not block. There are already warez websites here that have been running for years, so far no problem.

Yeah.. all parties involved need to understand the risks.

Hmm... some western countries/ISPs block russian news portals like https://www.rt.com or https://sputniknews.com - I can't access them either.
For someone who have interest to read that crap it's relatively easy to override block of course, I just comment it regarding "nothing blocked".

Damn, had no idea. Guess I’m not a frequent RT reader.
