My ISP, opened a ticket on January 21 and still counting!

  • virmach,more than 1 year

  • ionswitch.com - died in the arse some 6 months ago, no response since june 2022
    hosthatch 2-5 days

  • OVH for service transfer.

    1. Requested my Identity Verification without saying what I need (+3 days)
    2. Uploaded and waited (+2 days)
    3. Replied me to upload my verification documents on their temporary file hosting service, not uploading directly (+2 days)
    4. Uploaded and gave them their link, but it took so long that it expired on that damn thing (+7 days)
    5. They said they also wanted to verify my address (+4 days)
    6. Won't accept government-issued documents (+3 days)
    7. Kept asking for a gas bill which it set to autopay, won't even accept the online one (+3 days)
    8. Said on the last that they'll just refuse the request because they just don't want to do it (+3 days)

    Impressing, isn't it?

  • most low-end provider are slow.. around 24hrs-48+

  • emghemgh Member, Megathread Squad

I just tried the OP himself, @vero. 3 minutes, but as I send the request in last seconds of said minute, most fair to make it 2 minutes.

    Decent! :D

What was the longest period you had to wait for provider to respond to opened ticket or inquiry?

Contacted few providers recently and it starts to get interesting. I know people tend to become sleepy in autumn, but this may take matters further - right to improvement of the previous record.

    Dealing with OVH or Namecheap

We opened a tech support ticket with OVH last week and they gave a very helpful reply in less than an hour from the ticket being opened.

We don't have any special support agreements with them (just month to month dedicated servers) but do spend a fair bit with them each month - maybe they prioritize customers who spend more? Not sure.

I have specialized agreements with OVH & I pay for faster support times.

  • As for OVH/SoYouStart/Kimsufi, from my experience, the answering time is very random. I never had to contact them often, but sometimes I get an answer within an hour, and other time in 2-3 business days.

However, to be honest, one time, I had a hardware issue (on a Kimsufi hosted at BHS), and they dealt with my ticket within 15 minutes, and all was fixed within 30 minutes. It might seems long for some, but considering the price of Kimsufi, I find it acceptable.

Billing department at OVH took 3 wks to reply to my ticket.

Had exactly the same situation and that's the exact reason I don't use them. Also remember (it was like 5 years back) they made some changes to services without informing, so I just packed up my stuff and moved on.

Yeah OVH is mid. Hetzner has like 0 support lol.

Never had any problems with Hetzner. You can even call the DC for extra quick support.

Non hosted related but support from eBay is non existent, useless cheap support with zero understanding eBay as business.

BoomerHost - Ticket opened on 3/25/2022 ... still not answered. Though I did notice that the problem was solved about 4 months later. I wasn't expecting much for $5 a year. My expectations were met ...

If you don't mention this merchant, I forgot that there is such a thing. The boomer2 website is closed, and the balance of my account on it is also missing.
Currently the boomer2 site is redirected to the boomer site.
But the account is gone and the data doesn't seem to be migrated.

  • My server was supposed to get terminated on July, because I didn't pay my bills.
But it is still on and I can access it.
Sent them like 5 tickets to kindly turn off the server but still didn't get a reply.

Keep traces of your tickets (screen captures, downloads) , because one day, this host can come to you with the bill with all these extra months.

This is indeed reasonable and advisable approach. Yet I doubt most non-Ionos level hosts would send a debt collection agency in your pursuit.

I noticed this year an increase in cases when clients tend to pay late or overdue, and restoring cancelled services requires more effort later, then client asks you for that, than just leave that service active for longer.

Experience matter  ... As a general rule, always keep traces of everything, even if this easy to prove you are right, documenting what happened, how and when, is of a great help.

If you are asking how to buy Windows XP, you should never get a reply.

Over a year with QuadHost. I think it was around 15 months in total, and the reply was just because they were shutting down their business.

I also had one with a different provider that took... I think six months? They only replied when their system auto-closed it due to inactivity and I opened + commented on it. Don't want to name the provider since I still use them, but they're known for slow replies to promotional services.
