There is nothing more enticing, disenchanting, and enslaving than the life at sea.

BTW where are you getting these from?

    They're actually very good right?

    Yes!

@Xrmaddness said: That's pretty cool! Any fun flight stories?

Not as many as I got my FAA license when I lived in the US back in the mid 80's. I had a little software company there that developed a cost plus fuel purchasing management software used by big trucking companies. This was in the time before the internet and the software would connect to the fuel distribution rack data in Minnesota and the truck stop billing system ComData via dial up modem from each companies headquarters location. So I flew to different clients locations every week to install the software and train a company employee to use it. I bigger company bought me out in 1989. (Suddenly feel old.)

Don't get me wrong flying was fun at times, but it was mostly work related, so the stories are less interesting or fun except for a few that are weather, or airport related which I don't know if people who have never flown would find that interesting.

I did lose the engine once and had to land in a field in Arkansas, but I was flying a rented Cessna 172 so as they glide forever with out power it was not a big deal. Of course I was glad I could just call the place I rented it from to come get it. Because I would not have wanted to try and fly it out of that field. I considered myself a pretty good sea Captain but I was only a so so pilot even after logging almost 700 hours in various single engine planes.

I do not have any digital photos of this time to post as it was way before digital cameras.
So I would need to scan the photos I do have.

Well handled situation -- don't think I'd want to personally fly a single engine plane after that ๐Ÿ˜‚

Although I sold my sailboat back in 2013, if you find yourself down this way (Puerto Vallarta) with a few $$ to burn. We can rent a 40'sh sailboat and I'll take you and up to four more people out to sea.
(I promise to bring you back)

Sounds like a deal, I trust you would or else, we both wouldn't come back. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  • @Xrmaddness said: Honestly, those kinds of things do interest me! I've seen every episode of Mayday / Air Crash Investigations! That's a pretty fun story though, thanks for sharing :)

They always show people in small planes landing on roadways. I always felt anyone who tried to do this was not thinking straight because of all the power lines. Fields were always my emergency landing strip, as long as you had a pretty good idea they would not be muddy. I would never want to land a tricycle landing gear plane in a muddy field as I expect it would be a good way to cartwheel the plane. Tail dragger maybe, but only if there was no other option.

@jmaxwell said: Interesting experiences you have. What happened to that software afterwards ?

The big company, that shall remain nameless, incorporated it into their billing system as a value add benefit to their large customer base. It then became the standard way to purchase diesel fuel for most mid to large trucking companies in the US. I signed a ten year non compete agreement for the US as part of the sale, so I just moved back to Mexico and started a company here building operations/management software for hotels and resorts in Mexico. But that is another story in itself.

    Coffee break guys :)

Nice! Hot or iced? What kind of coffee day was it today?

hot coffee, just for a break :)

I'm a hot in the morning / cold in the afternoon, kind of person

Whats your go to cold drink?

That's a good question, actually! I've been trying some new things lately. In lieu of coffee in the afternoon, I've been having an occasional Mountain Dew Energy drink. If you haven't tried them, you should! They're quite good, and only 25 calories (and 180mg of caffeine)!
