Also welcome all you lurkers!
There are three basic kinds of sailing stories.
First is antidotes about places you went or the on the boat travel stories, nice ones like visiting such and such place and something interesting or odd that happened there. Or stories like being on a calm ocean at night, when it is phosphorescent, with a light fog all around you, while the dolphins ply the water around your boat lighting up the ocean in streaks and swirls. I got to tell you being a couple hundred Kms out in the ocean, while this is happening is an amazingly peaceful and moving experience.
Then there are the kind of stories where the wave are 5 to 7 meters high and the wind is blowing 100 km/h and your just trying to keep your shit together and make all the right decisions so you don't break the boat and can get through the day.
Third are the mechanical problems at sea, which for me at least were never life threatening so they are stories with some drama, but always have a happy ending.
In between all of these stories are the days or weeks of relatively calm and boring days when you sail along at 5 to 8 kts, hour after hour. For me this was one of the best parts of sailing, me and the boat working the wind just going with nothing at all in sight but blue.
