Netcup.de price increase 9% due energy purchase costs

Got email from Netcup.de
We already referred to this in a news article in October: https://anx.io/oPzPe

Due to the increase in all energy purchase costs, for which no stabilization is expected in the foreseeable future, netcup must adjust the prices of a large part of its products.

The price adjustment will amount to an increase of approximately 9% and will be carried out in two steps:

Step 1: on 11/02/2022 prices were adjusted on the website and in the CCP. For all new orders (this includes upgrades as well) the new prices are valid since then.
Step 2: existing contracts will be adjusted with the next billing period in 2023.

Comments

  • yes, mine will increase in Feb 2023 when contract ends.
but considering the service, I may keep the vm

  • Naturally, no one likes a price increase, but given the circumstances (in particular, electricity prices in Germany), netcup seem to have given the matter some thought and to have made a reasonable decision about how to implement an energy-related price increase

  • Did you guys already had a email? I did not recieve anything..

Neither have I, but netcup say that they will send out individual notices during the first half of November, so we should receive a notice by mid-November

Hmm In my account I see at 'Vertragliches' a new term: Kosten / Monat (regulär). I think this is the new price.

thanks, that's a good pointer. I already wondered, where they'd put that information. sadly that also made me notice, that they are going to hike pricing for additional IPs as well, doubling from 1€ to 2€ per month :/

Presumably, this (dramatic) price hike for an additional IP can't be attributed to energy prices :#

Yes, this seems to be the case

Personally, I don't find the descriptions "Kosten / Monat (individuell vereinbart)" versus "Kosten / Monat (regulär)" so transparent, where the first is the old price and the second, the new price. I mean, why "individuell vereinbart" for the old price and "regulär" for the new price?

    (But okay, I won't complain too much! :) )

Yeah weird. For the hosting package I always paid 5.67 per month, now 6.20. haha I can deal with that.

probably the easiest way and existing fields/automatics. they grandfather the running term into a former indivdual agreement, which in the end fits all possible cases. and from the next renewal on the regular (new) price will apply.

I have an old addon IP for 0.80 and two at 1€. all become the new regular 2€ per month. so obviously they smooth it out this way.

though I really don't like not even getting an individual information (so far). it's changes to the contracts, so I'd expect each being properly and individually announced.

yet, there is not much to do or complain about anyway, it wasn't to be expected that they wouldn't fall in line with all the others.

I see, yes, this makes sense. I wasn't thinking of it in terms of existing database fields but rather in terms of how one would preferably call these two prices if one could freely name them :)

I'm waiting to see what their BF promo would be like. I've canceled my current plan, which is the old plan with fewer CPUs. Netcup is my first choice for my EU usages. Wish it won't let me down...

Given general inflation and current energy prices, one shouldn't have high expectations this year, I'm afraid :/

I'll probably just keep my existing services unless I see a promotion that really tempts me

  • Interesting. Didn't receive any email and nothing on the panel neither.

It seems like IPv4 are now prices 2€ but failover IPs (quite expensive: 5€) stay at the same price. The failover ones might become interesting at some point

I'm sure that we'll receive an email about this in the next week or so

Since for existing services, the +9% applies only beginning in 2023, netcup aren't yet late with their email, I would say :)

Same for me, it's only 9%, but service overall is great.
Sure nobody likes price increase, it's only few bucks but :)

True. But my existing services are with old plans which are 2 CPUs shorter than the same level plans. So I guess for me, a BF promo at the same price level before the price hike would already be enough for me. Or, I'll change from Root Server to vServers then.

  • @kend said: a BF promo at the same price level before the price hike

I heavily doubt this will happen. their last sales always have been the pricing of the regular 12 month period but more disk. doubled for root server and 1.5x on vservers. the latter also had two more cores or so, but that was about it.

anything done on the pricing would really be a surprise... guess we'll ahve to wait and see anyway.
good thing as usual is, that the offers from BF might reappear in their advent calendar afterwards, so there is no hurry at all.

Yes, let's wait and see. Only around two more weeks before we know the deals.
