As far as we want great deals, let's think about the sustainability as well :)

Fuck that shit! It is the problem of business administrators and sales manages to think about sustainability of their offers. This is why they get their salary. This is why they get to eat and prosper. This is their fucking job! If they can't do their job and can't handle their responsible decisions, then to hell with their god damn business, because they ain't worth it!

An employee is asked on interview: "Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?". In return I expect a manager to also think about their own business and their own job 5 years from now.

Therefore NO! Let's not "think about the sustainability" of a deal. It's a manager's duty to do their job and bring some profits.

  • It's also a decision they make, usually in the early stages of a business, to get people interested in their product / brand. Once people are hooked, you can start charging sustainable rates that also cover the costs of the unsustainable deals as well.

It's not just hosting. Almost every supermarket ever runs loss-leaders to get people in the door, knowing that most people also buy something else and with a few extra purchases, and especially if it changes habits so they start shopping there more regularly, they'll make it back in the end.

I can agree with you on that one but we as customers must be wary as well.
FWIW this can be some quick exit scam. these deals seem pretty unsustainable as is.

On this we disagree. The 5555 and 6666 deals as well as their Budget and EPYC specials seem very sustainable to me, because GreenCloud owns most of their IPv4, equipment, and I expect that their support labor cost is not as high as US or EU. Yes colo cost can go up due to electric prices and inflation, but they are only locked in to the customer pricing for the term on these deals. After that they are free to adjust if required. Locking customers into two and three year deals does allow them to utilize their equipment better then having a constant churn of clients. If it is managed correctly it all seems good to me.

I even doubt that they are loosing money on the 8888 and 9999 birthday deals. I don't expect they are making much if anything, but these are the deals that drive in new customers and can be considered a marketing cost.

I may be wrong, but I can't see how anyone could consider this an exit scam. If it is they are doing it wrong and could be making a lot more money by not limiting the 9999 deals.

    Just my 2 cents.

@default The one time in my life that I was asked the question in an interview "Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?" My answer was "In your job, and I expect it to take a lot less then 5 years to get there." I personally never asked that question to anyone I was interviewing.

    It's also credit cards.
Many credit cards give 3~5% cashback on certain categories, and 1% for everything else.
Typically, the merchant pays 1.5~3% of each transaction to the credit card issuer.
The issuer is counting on me purchasing from 1% categories to make profits.

What I did is signing up for multiple credit cards, and only purchasing from the 3~5% categories.
If a merchant doesn't fit in any 3~5% category, I use the credit card that gives 2% cashback on everything.
On average, my purchases are causing credit card issuers to lose $1 per $100 charged.
