Questions about Quotes in PMs on LowEndTalk

edited October 2022 in Meta

Initial condition:

  • I "quote" a message in a regular thread and then copy the quote from the edit window without posting it.
  • I paste the quote into a personal message to the person whose quote I copied.
  • I add my own text to ask or talk about the quoted text.
  • After committing the message, I notice that the quote included a nested quote from third member who was not included in the personal message.

Questions:

  1. Will the third member be notified that they were quoted in the PM?
  2. Will the third member be able to view the personal message?
  3. Are there any other side-effects that I should know about?

If the 3rd user wasn’t added into the PM then he/she won’t see it.

There is no nested quote there, but it could be easily arranged.

Yeah, I thought about running a test, but you need to start with quote that includes a nested quote from a third-party. The third-party needs to be aware of the test so you can ask them, "Did you get a notification?" without leaving them to wonder what you are taking about.

Asked and answered. That is good enough for me. Thanks to @DP for responding with the answer.
