Twitch.tv stopped the Full HD streaming in S.Korea because they are not cheap

5 EUR at https://gcore.com/hosting/vds/, but not "large bandwidth", only 500GB/month.

  • Why is bandwidth so expensive there?

because major ISPs want to make money and don't want to expand their wired network. and there is no neutral IX, must be peering with major ISP from other network

There's also this weird law where you are required to pay for your traffic usage, even if you are in a peering agreement.

If you think that's the reason for OP to get a VPS there, why would he ask for South Korea and not anywhere else in the world where speedtest proves to manage the bandwidth of a full HD stream?

  • You can use oracle always free in SouthKoera

  • It does seem strange though that in places that have always been ahead of the curve in terms of data consumed by citizens charge so much to provide that data. I'm specifically thinking of HK and S. Korea, for places where massive amounts of cheap data was available before most of the world, but also China nowadays.
