Warpinator - The 'new' best way to share files across OSs ?

ArkasArkas Member, Retired Moderator

If you don't have the time to build a NAS, or don't need it, there is a new way to share your files across multiple Operating Systems. Linux, Windows, IOS, Android, it works accross them all! It's name is warpinator. My experience so far has been excellent. Much better than simple samba sharing, more secure and more accessible.

Here is a video reviewing it. Enjoy

That music in the intro just warped me back to the 90s.

    Hows it compare to syncthing?

I find it much simpler to configure and just share files fast. It also seems to find other peers faster and much more reliably.

    Neat.

Have you tested it over the WAN?

Not yet, that's the next step in my list. :sunglasses:

  • Protip: include url to project in OP.

I'd rather have automatic syncing from Resilio than manually need to specify the file each time. More steps/hassle. But syncing isn't the same as one time upload, so use case and available space dictates the better workflow solution.

Edit: I don't have time to finish the video. Once I saw him need to approve the transfer each time (can be disabled in settings), I realized this is a bad design and doesn't make much use case sense for the majority of people, IMO.

The video made it appear to be local lan only by broadcast/search, unless I skipped over how to add by IP:port.

Require approval before accepting files -----> switch to off position.
Like you said can be disabled in settings. Problem? I don't see any.
