I've got a major disk performance issue ticket in right now, where I suspected it to be hardware. From the look of things so far, ReliableSite is going above and beyond to make sure it's properly identified and fixed. As I'm observing their work from a distance, it seems to outpace their pricing.

So, you know, if you're not a customer you probably should be.

@jar How good are they when it comes to customization? I have made a few attempts to make business with them but wasn't able to get there due to choice/restriction. I value when businesses offer choices or try to make it work, including custom quoting.

In this Ryzen market in USA... it's been hard to find a provider that uses ECC RAM and actually have ECC activated and at the same time provide DDoS protection. It seem to be either ECC no Anti-DDoS or No ECC but Anti-DDoS included.

Nice offers! These are a banger as usual from RS.

I haven't done any customization but surely can't be too bad. I'm a bit on the fence on ECC as I haven't yet noticed a strong enough correlation to unexplained issues between systems that have it and don't.

@jar that's the worst part of all when it comes to these memory errors , they can happen and you wouldn't know if it happened unless you are using ECC RAM. Let's say you have this MySQL database with million of records with number values (transactions), if a bitflip happen and a 6 turns into 2, that's something you will not know. With ECC it would be corrected before turning into data corruption.

From what I've seen in many discussions around the net, it seems people think of ECC as just system stability and uptime but is so much more.

    Not to derail.
RS offers are a banger. Very competitive.

ECC can't detect and fix all bit errors, it's best used as early failure notification for planned maintenance rather than "oh shit, BSOD for the third time today".

Thanks for the feedback. We're making some major strides to push it even further. We launched our in-house route optimization in Los Angeles this week. Here's a couple of MTRs from China during peak hours (7:10 PM Beijing time). Left is optimized, right is BGP preferred routes taken simultaneously (we no have direct China peering). This isn't a guarantee of current or future performance, but just a general idea of what we're trying to achieve.

We'll deploy this in Miami and NYC Metro later this year.

@TimboJones ECC RAM / parity checking would halt the system if the error can't be corrected. There is not much example or info about this, but research parity checking along with ECC.

Certainly in a system where data integrity is a must it would be preferable to halt the system if the error is uncorrectable. Or that's my opinion. That combined with HA and other stuff like ZFS (with ECC) would certainly help with system stability and data integrity.

Not an expert or scientist in the subject. Is what I understand from the studies quoted by wikipedia or articles around the net.

I just like best practices. Running non-ecc would harm my peace, knowing that I'm exposing my customers to such errors, when they are trusting me as the provider. Always have ECC RAM.

This is not correct, the system does not halt, it's only logged as an uncorrectable error. Speaking from tons of experience....

@MrRadic this may vary between systems. Just to give an example: https://superuser.com/a/1647697

  • CPUs with iGPU available? Like 5700G instead of 5600X + GPU?
Ohh wait, can you passthrough AMD iGPU actually or is it Intel only?

I've never seen either case in the tens of thousands of servers we've deployed. We have both ECC and non-ECC configurations, but it doesn't negate that specific experience, I'm more curious how they know it was caused by a faulty memory stick and not other hardware/software issues.

iGPUs, no, and the ones that are, can't pass through. We offer the nVidia RTX 4000, which can be added to most of our newer configurations (all Ryzen, 9th gen Intel and newer).

We're stepping away from customization. While this isn't necessarily a popular option, the cost savings that we pass down to customers is pretty hefty. The downside is that we can't offer every possible alternative (in this case ECC + Ryzen).

Never give up customization, you will be leaving a big sector of the market. Not everyone want instant servers. Balance is key.

Wrote a bunch of shit but removed it. You are the one running the shop anyway.

I waited for months to get this one, but the included hardware RAID adapter wasn't compatible with the motherboard, so that didn't work out.

I'm sure you could sell more if they work as configured.

I'd love to have some NJ-based dedicated RAID-10 storage, but haven't found anything similar.

Yes, as long as the motherboard supports it.
