Republicans Want to Shove Their Spam Down Your Inbox

szarkaszarka Member

Just when you think you've seen all the dumb ways politicians want to screw up the Internet, they find a new one… Ladies and Gentlemen, the Political BIAS Emails Act of 2022:

"It shall be unlawful for an operator of an email service to use a filtering algorithm to apply a label to an email sent to an email account from a political campaign unless the owner or user of the account took action to apply such a label."

  • Two famous republicans on this forum are rather conspicuously absent from this thread. It would be very interesting to see their response.

It's just targeting Gmail with their "label" language. Google is already talking to the FEC about collaboration on the topic: https://www.fec.gov/updates/week-of-july-4-8-2022/

Republicans are just mad because they send the most spam by far of any US party. Hefty amount of it blocked on MXroute purely on the grounds of unsolicited email. They can kiss my ass if they try to make me deliver it. Double opt in or 5xx I don't care who you are.

So, the name Jarland derived from Jar + Land? A land of jars it seems. Strange new world.

P.S. Any complementary .png on that?

I mean is this really bad?

Operators would need a way to 'recognize' such political e-mails (so new header or something?) which would make it 10189598189598158989x times easier to label and filter out?! Imagine logging to gmail in 2 months and seeing message "Hey, you have new e-mail from <political campaign>. Due to current laws we can't filter them automagically, but those are choice for you: 1. delete them, all, future one too; 2. Apply label <label selector>; 3. do nothing for now"

    o:)

    One click, years of silence.

And that is why it's unconstitutional off the bat and never will become law. It's grandstanding. Forced speech is also a 1st Amendment violation. Private entities are not literally people but are made up of people voluntarily pooling their resources and so forced speech on a corporate level is just batch executing unconstitutional constraints on speech, that's all. Even if by miracle of miracles it passes as legislation it will be enjoined immediately and struck down. Out of all of the attempts at skirting the 1st Amendment, this ranks pretty low on the effort scale.

Me not know or care and not living in the "exceptional country" but honestly, as much as I hate spamming from the bottom of my heart ....
... in my books sending political party spam emails still is orders of magnitude better than risking to ignite world war 3 to deflect from family problems.

But don't worry, the "court" for Pelosi's husband has been nicely set up with a new "judge", a Pelosi friend of course. And if I'm not mistaken the "court" farce just so happens to take place while (almost) all eyes gaze at Taiwan.

So, be nice and look at the province of China called "Taiwan" ... and then pay the fees for Pelosi's distraction adventure.

Will political campaigns have to register their dkim in a database?

As written, it sounds like it would be impossible to label spam because any text filter that allows 100% of campaign mail will be easy to exploit by other spammers.

"✅✅✅ Vote 100% effective Viagra Cialis campaign for Senate"

"Shhh! lonely voters looking for 🔥🔥 in your area."

I think that, even if it will not pass, the Supreme Court will make spam filters illegal. Or, better yet, leave the state Republicans to decide. THEN we will see REAL madness :P

Fuck libertarians. Spend so much time trying to be agreeable with everyone just enough that they end up being useless social experiments. Their opinions change the moment anyone disagrees with them passionately enough because they feel like it stops them from being "in the middle."

I identify as libservitarian. Everyone has at least one good idea and a thousand shitty ones. Sorry to not identify as a preconfigured label but I find that I hate everyone equally lately. Republicans are warmongering idiots, democrats are warmongering idiots, libertarians are just edgy college students, the green party is just a bunch of pot smoking democrats.

If you hate people who worship government, you're not welcome in any party other than libertarian. But then their platform is weird, their candidates too pandering, their voters would agree to nuke Canada if it was a centrist position by today's social standards because they literally only stand for "whatever is between democrat and republican."

If anyone sees this and thinks I agree with their opinions, I probably don't. Not since early 2020 at least. Everything became even more polarizing with the pandemic and belonging to any particular camp meant social pressure to risk your safety, trade your freedom, or make hasty decisions. Not that any of it matters because if you need to agree with your opinions that's just sad anyway. Live your life and stay the hell off my lawn.

O c'mon, you certainly don't look like Hilary boy. Than what? America has only 2 point of views - either you blue or red :D . Actually that's kinda sad...

I suspect that you haven't kept up with recent LP news, then…

Which is not to say that many of these folks aren't their own special brand of asshole and/or inconsistent in new ways. But I don't think trying hard to be "in the middle" is accurate anymore.

Wow, you really are not very observant, at all. Remember, I'm Canadian, so I'm a Trudeau boy. In Canada, the conservatives were generally not in favour of legalizing pot and were cumming over themselves to build more prisons.

I'm a Bernie guy, but Hilary over Trump in every universe. She actually had governing experience.

For the US, I'd love to see Tom Morello or The Rock be President.
