I took a minimum wage job in a specialty store so I could learn more about a hobby interest. It was a small store with a handful of employees. The low-wage employees like me were assigned the job of cleaning the customer and employee bathrooms along with the regular work.
The customer bathroom was generally neat. The employee bathroom was always filthy. The manager (and some other employees) would not bother to clean up after themselves. They would leave poop on the toilet seat or anywhere else on the toilet. It was baffling because everyone knew which employees (or the manager) had left the mess. Clearly some people feel no shame at all. They could never do that at home, even if they live by themselves. The smell alone would drive them out. It was so disrespectful, because everyone knew which employees had the job of cleaning the bathrooms at the end of the day.
Eventually it became obvious that I was learning more about retail sales operations than the hobby itself. The manager was not going to change his bathroom habits, so I quit. No amount of learning was worth that level of disrespect, abuse, and poop cleaning.
-> I will say with pride that I am damn good at cleaning bathrooms, and I kept my dignity intact while doing so. I hope I never have to do it again as a job. Other than helping out at home, I am retired from bathroom cleaning. :-)
