Need German VPS - budget $6 - Hetzner or Vultr?
Hey,
My current setup
OVH Frankfurt (Used for HAPROXY; protection from DDoS)
Upcloud Frankfurt (Used to serve the website)
I'm looking to add another VPS to serve the website and load balance.
I need it with the specs (1GB,1v Core, around $6) in Germany (preferably in or around Frankfurt). I am looking at Hetzner and Vultr (High frequency). I'm confused between the two. Can you please suggest me your preferred provider. I would prefer a very solid network.
Thank you for reading in advance

Both of them are solid. But Herzner is cheaper.
Hetzner more bang for the bucks
Hetzner offers more resources, NUR is around 3ms from FRA so it should work
Hetzner is able to provide much more bandwidth, and they have 20T, which is not possible with Vultr.
But given Vultr's deployment in global markets, perhaps on a global scale, Vultr can offer a better network service than Hetzner.
But if you need OVH Frankfurt for load balancing (i.e. traffic flowing through OVH) anyway, then Hetzner can certainly give more at the $6 price point, and they are good.
Makes sense. Thank you for the replies. Looks like Hetzner wouldn't be a bad choice
Why are you looking at Hetzner or Vultr specifically?
On netcup you can get 4vCore (AMD EPYC), 4GB ram, 80TB traffic, 1Gbps bandwidth, hourly billing (6 months payment in advance, you get refund when you cancel)
5.55 euro/mo

or you can go even cheaper - (2vCore, 2GB ram, 80TB traffic, 1Gbps bandwidth) for 2.99 euro.

Their network is very good for me, but I don't serve content outside of EU so IDK how it works from USA/Asia etc.
Update - Hetzner seems to be a no-go. They deleted my account for inactivity. I made another account (their twitter support suggested it) and failed the verification by identfy.
My very brief research suggested that they are good. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll look into netcups.
Hetzner is good and cheap. You can also use make resources when you need
You should consider https://php-friends.de/vserver-ssd. The price is a little higher but you get dedicated CPU.
Webhorizon is ok, works well for me
Webhosting24 Munich 1GB
1 core
1GB RAM
20GB NVMe
IPv4 + routed IPv6
$36.96/year
Notice: paid link, non-aff
Cannot see their prices even. They are out of stock. Thank you for the suggestion though
thank you for the suggestion.
Actually, as you've brought up Hetzner, anyone know what the real-world usage allowance of CPX11 is? I know it's not dedicated and you're supposed to use CCX12 to dedicated CPU, but just wondering what you're actually allowed to use if you for instance spin up an instance for just under an hour at a time.
@tomazu give us more stonk!
Also, why is /48 becoming /64?
Hetzner doesn't want customers. Their verification system sucks. they don't want to help you if you failed it.
AlphaVPS also has servers in Germany. Just in the Hetzner data center.

Thank you for the recommendation. Our legacy KVM line is getting sunset, I suggest taking a look at the better-priced EPYC KVMs (High-Performance VPS), which we designed for reliability in mind for production use - https://alphavps.com/high-performance-vps.html
We'd be glad to have you on-board @jonbyd . We colocate in Hetzner's facility and our network there is due to be upgraded very soon as well.
Hello guys,
Thank you for your suggestions. I appreciate each and every one of the posts above. Hetzner has verified my account. I sent them the email request on 21st and got a reply from them today. I assumed they /dev/null'd my email request.
I will be going with Hetzner as previously suggested by initial posters. And mod can close this thread, or not.
Restocked, we are quite busy ;-) Thx & keep care!
$36.81/year
Never had problems with them. Android-Builds that took a couple hours ran flawlessly. But do not expect them to let you max out your CPU 24/7. Eventually they will artificially limit it - like every Cloud-Provider would do.
