Why US dedi providers typically are about 2-3 times higher than those in EU?

And Asia is about another 2-3 times higher than US?

  • In my impression, living in EU is very expensive.

I guess the reason why Datacentres in Asia are expensive is mainly due to the bandwidth cost.

You can't just use average wage / GDP to determine the cost of renting a dedi...

If so, we would have been able to rent a dedi in Africa at a very low cost :D

imo its a combination of these factors:

    • higher internet pricing
    • higher logistics cost
    • real estate is more expensive in some cases
    • staff needs to be paid more
    • tax (? I'm not familiar with us taxing system but it's just a guess)
    • as long as people buy it, there's no need to decrease the price
    • their main focus is on US based customers, which have a much bigger net worth average than EU people

Maybe @Hetzner_OL can start selling dedis in US for thin profits like they do in EU?

Hetzner's Ashborn VPS/VDS site already causes a lot of hot attention on hacker news. 20 TB 1 gbps shared port for a $4 vps did not exist in US before.
If Hetzner can provide AX41 in US at the same current price in EU, many dedi providers in US will cry for their moms.

But a lot of the staff is outsourced to other countries with lower pay. Have you tried calling Dell support for example...?

Haven't really encountered that at hosting providers. More importantly, the folks working in the actual DC and configuring the routers—not the script monkeys you talk to on the phone—are local.
