Terrahost upgraded port from 1G to 10G... for free!

AXYZEAXYZE Member

I just YABSed my Terrahost VPS and noticed that I have way better network speeds than usual. That made my curious, I did not receive any mail from them, I did not order anything... what happened?

I checked Terrahost current offer https://terrahost.com/virtual-servers
Looks like they recently changed their offer and now they provide 10Gbps ports on Norway/USA/Amsterdam locations!

It is pretty normal that providers improve their offers over time, but looks like they even upgrade old instances for free! They already got money, but they decided to improve their performance further without even making huge deal out of it. No mail, no announcement, wow.

YABS now (Norway location):

1x 5950X core (performance like 2.5-3 vCore Intel E5 v2), 2GB ram, 40GB NVMe, 10G "unmetered" (they still have FUP) for $10 looks like amazing offer now!

Even better if you get recurring coupon like me (I got -30% so this VPS is $7 monthly).
You can get such coupon even right now, but its on OGF... :)

Did your Terrahost instances got upgrade for free too? I just hope its not mistake on their side and they wont revert it hahaha

No email but you are here, we now know how awesome this deal is.

Yes, same here, both my Norway and AMS VPS's are blazing fast now.

Well, they were already with that beefy CPU, but now its even faster.

Can't confirm. Just ran a benchmark and found the numbers to be the same as months ago.
That said, I certainly won't complain, quite the contrary, because even the "old, only 1 Gb/s" connectivity of @terrahost was among the really nice ones (plus they honoured a pretty much insane HostSolutions deal I had).

Will check again in a couple of days, maybe the node I'm on will get the upgrade too (if not, I'm still a very happy terrahost customer).

  • It looks great. I'm going to try it

  • dosaidosai Member

Looks like it it for KVM servers only for now. I have a LXC and it is limited to 1gbps. I'm very happy with terrahost's network.

Yes, this is correct. Most KVMs have received an upgrade to 10Gbps. If you have a KVM and have not received an upgrade, please open a ticket and we'll see what we can do. Not all do support this.

We expect everyone to play nice and use this as intended, for burst traffic. Our terms are as previously, 1Gbps unmetered, but if we have really high traffic nodes, we may ask clients to limit their usage (this has never happened as of right now).

How about VDS with 100G capabilities? Coming soon. :)

    Youre crazy 😅😅😅😅

Im curious how it can be used. Isnt even this beefy CPU a bottleneck in a shared env with 1-2-4 cores available? TLS etc. uses CPU and its a freaking 100G!

Serving DNS requests doesn't use much CPU.

That said, the performance improvement is, I assume, going to be marginal for those small packets if you're not under heavy load. But I don't see how it could hurt. :)

    So what ?

  • Is Terrahost good? Not such much user review on it.
Why Epik took over Terrahost is such big news, whereas Terrahost itself is not so hot on LET?

I just put the LEB cheap dedi special I ordered at Terrahost's Norway location into production. Disk speed is slow, as expected since it's a hard drive, but network is fine (see the bottom of the below for European tests). No complaints here. Great value for the price.
