What kind of Virtualization you use and why? (KVM, VMware EXSI, etc)
Hey, I just wanted to know what you guys use to virtualize stuff and the reason behind using that particular virtualization choice.
Also, I did search up QEMU and found its a type 2 hypervisor. Note, that the performance I experienced was very good even though type 2 is not recommended for hosts? Could someone please clarify that for me?
Thanks.
P.S -> LMK if this was not the correct category to post this thread in

KVM is basically an addon to QEMU... tf you talking about
Well, hope nekki does not see this lol
Well, basically whenever I check the virtualization of a VPS, it returns KVM to me for some reason. First time seeing it return QEMU
Why did you buy it if you didn't know what it was and "the internet" said it wasn't "recommended"?
I never said its bad. I already said I am very satisfied with the performance. Just wanted to clarify why this is providing similar performance to a type 1 hypervisor. Now that I know it uses KVM for acceleration, I realize why its providing similar performance to a type 1 hypervisor as, well KVM accelerated QEMU is basically type 1.
Feel free to post on which type of virtualization you guys use
You might need to google some more
Alright. I'll do that and hope nekki does not criticize me after I put up more info
Fucking millenials
Baby Boomers when someone says that gay people deserve rights
Wat?
All my personal systems run Proxmox, which is QEMU/KVM under the hood. For work, VMware rule the roost.
QEMU/KVM for now. Wide support.
Also being as close to type 1 as possible, unlike the VirtualBox type 2 [redacted].
I can't understand these kids, either.
Good this community helps me understand stuff lmao. Just hoping I become better at asking questions that are valid lel
KVM/QEMU is hands down the best choice, considering it's open source (free) and extremely well supported.
You could be "that guy" and pay for VMware/EXSI and whatnot, but you know that you'd be pissing that money up the wall, in my opinion.
Now even more and more hosting providers are using proxmox.
Hyper-V, cause Windows
QEMU + KVM (virt manager) and VMware ESXi.
Home server 1: VMware (ESXi 6.7)
Home server 2: Hyper-V (upgraded to v10 with Server 2022)
Hetzner server: QEMU + KVM (Proxmox), LXC.
Aruba Cloud VMware VPS are among the most performant vps that i found are based on VMware infrastructure.
ESXi 6.7 has been extremely solid for a number of years, it has decent web interface and it is free. Hopefully 7.0 continues equally well.
