  • My server on TYOC038 has been offline and it can not online by boot or reboot. How to deal with this situation?

@xpreboun said: When your SEAZ001 VPS had issue do you also see "Could not read from boot disk"? That's what I am seeing right now after I saw Virmach's update.

    So I shut it down.
I just rebooted it to check and it now says:

    Booting from hard disk
Boot failed could not read the boot disk
    No bootable device

So I shut it down again as IIRC VirMach has said in the past that leaving at this prompt causes issues.

This is the account I just registered today. I have been silent for a month. It is also my first comment today, and I have never issued a ticket. I am confused about how Virmach works. Now the virtual machine is not configured, why did it start? Relocate to the US, if I'm asking the wrong thing, take it as if I mentioned it

You can blame their firmware or implementation or things like that but not the NAND. The NANDs are all sourced from the same few brands and they are not stupid enough to sell "bad" NANDs. Also, what really gives them the nice benchmark speeds is by using the unused space as SLC cache so having a mix of good and bad NANDs wouldn't work out anyway.

I haven't looked into it much so that was just a guess.

But you're right, I spent a few minutes looking everything up to try to form a better guess, and it uses 176 layer Micron VNAND so it's not the NAND that's an issue. Except it also uses an InnoGrit IG5236 controller which it shares with other drives that do not have the same problem. And SLC cache is supposed to be around 600GB+ and 2GB RAM.

I actually don't know much about how the controller tries to fill each cell. I assume it tries to level them out as well as it can but does it go per cell? If so maybe that would explain it having troubles after filling 300GB, it fills half the SLC for one cell and then fails to move onto the other?

But again it's the same controller as disks that work fine. And it's Micron NAND. So I don't know.

I have tried to replace ISO (mount/unmount) and install template for SJCZ002 and mine still does not work, I'll open a ticket on this issue.

    Which ISO and templates?

Actually I see one priority ticket mentioning LET around the same time as your comment mentioning that node and you mentioned you'll open a ticket so I'm assuming this one's yours. Actually you mention the comment in your ticket so it's definitely yours and I'll answer you here.

Rebooting with debug, I see that the XML configuration file never generated for your VPS, most likely related to you sending in a "boot" command 13 minutes after it was up but in this case I don't really blame you since it was outside the 10 minute period we usually ask people to wait.

I guess too many VMs being created at once so it took a little bit longer. Rewriting the file I still see it has an issue, it might be another problem with the node. I'll look into it.

Yeah it's just throwing a ton of errors right now. I'm waiting for datacenter to take their sweet time to perform emergency maintenance at something like $150/hr hands rate and hope I can copy data off.

Amsterdam Update - We've been paying Psychz for our cabinet for 14~ months now, and they want to raise the price by something like 50% now that we finally sent in hardware. And it turns out they never actually even provisioned our cabinet, as in they never assigned a cabinet to us at all. Even though we've been paying for it. All other locations they did actually assign a cabinet when they started billing us so I have no idea what happened in Amsterdam.

We're going to try to get a refund and try to send everything to Frankfurt instead if they don't hold the servers hostage, lose them, or anything else at this point because if they managed to do the above who knows what else they'll do... I have no idea where they even put our PDU or why on multiple occasions they said we could send hardware and why it took them so long after receiving the shipment to confess this fact. I'm as shocked as you are honestly.

All services outside of maybe 5 of them have been recreated for SJCZ003 and SJCZ007 issue. Most TYOC038 have been recreated. Some still need to be created if they never created properly in the first place on TYOC038. And SEAZ001 is still having issues, I'm trying to look at that again next.

Can you take a look at my service slip? My traffic is still 1G so far. And there are 2 more servers in my control panel that do not belong to me, I think you will be interested in this, my service order is #909490

so.. any progress on Storage servers at Tokyo location? It's been "Shipping soon" for a long time.

Paused due to all these servers breaking, etc. I'm still trying to send it out every single day and trying to work on it over this weekend and hopefully send Monday. That's the SOONEST it will be sent out though if nothing else goes wrong.

could it be that Psychz accepts idling cabinets like a low end datacenter?

No, it's stuck to Amsterdam. But given the news we might just scrap Amsterdam and it goes to Frankfurt and if people hate Frankfurt (honestly it will have a better network blend and pretty much everything, it also costs a lottttt more than Amsterdam) they can migrate to Amsterdam when it's offered again or cancel for a refund, or move to another location that's available.

I don't know, I just got the news.

@cybertech said: could it be that Psychz accepts idling cabinets like a low end datacenter?

It's actually funny, when they were discussing price increase on us they mentioned how we didn't use it and THEREFORE they had to charge us more. When I mentioned to them that they're probably saving money since we didn't use it, they brought up how the datacenter charges them anyway, then attached something that clearly shows the datacenter only charges them for power actually used, and the pricing for it actually was at or lower than the price they're billing us. And the current prices they have on their WHT thread is also lower than the price they want to raise it to.... AND, they didn't even provision it in the first place!!!

If I'm paying to idle a cabinet I at least want the cabinet!

I just hope they don't fully try to scam us and do provide the refunds under the circumstances...

Otherwise, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas 2 locations are with them and obviously it would be a huge breach of trust and we'd have to pull the plug on all of them. Los Angeles is easily replaceable, as is Dallas, but this might mean further delay for Chicago as we pull our remaining servers and evaluate the situation.

@VirMach Not that I figure it will make much difference but regarding SEAZ001. I'm covered and can do without it, no data is required as I have backups from two hours before it went down.

    P.S. Fuck Psychz

We'll default to Frankfurt for everyone here. It's the fastest way we can get the servers out of Amsterdam and up and running.

Still waiting on DC hands, if the data's there and I can at least read off the drive then it's no biggie moving everyone I can off. If not then most likely EVERYONE will have to do without data until I ship it here and try to do proper data recovery.

For Los Angeles, if Psychz doesn't work out, did you guys want QuadraNet or Inap/Dedipath?
