I have many "small resources'" VPS with 512MB & 256MB RAM (+ 2x 128MB RAM :P) and i'm happy with them. :) It's perfectly enough for a lot of task. For example: VPN, IRC related processes, simple static websites, etc. There is many other process and solution than wordpress.

    1. hiveserver2: at least 2g memory needed
    2. drill: at least 4g memory needed
    3. spark: at least 4g memory needed, the minimum file I throw into spark is 3g around
    4. postgresql: the minimum 2g memory needed for my app
    5. ELK: the minimum 2g required
    6. kafka: the min 2g required

And some others I didn't count in.

Are you here just to let us know about you or was there a point to this post?

Good for you. For awareness, the world does not revolve around your needs.

    Fucking millenials.

  • People call themselves developers but need 20G of ram before even typing a line of code?
No wonder everything is bloated to hell these days.

  • The existence of such offers is governed by the simple law of supply and demand. And the lively competition between providers only encourages them to occupy this niche, perhaps to the detriment of their desire to sell more expensive packages.

  • Why not? Maybe it’s just for private proxy which needs less than 128MB with proper configuration. Or you can put a dozen of static websites into a 128MB box. 512MB already can handle a lot.

  • i recently asked a provider if they have smaller package because why pay for what not needed

  • For me 1G or 2G is the new low end standart this time

  • They need to keep 250 VPS running on a 128G server to make profits.

I didn’t realise the business model was that simple, thanks.

512MB is actually fine with lots of the applications if you do some tuning.

My app starts with 1200% CPU and 32GB RAM.
    You are welcome.

I can process a million packets per second.
    Does your app do that?

  • 512M is more than enough when combined with a ridiculous amount of SWAP.

I am afraid even for a latest wordpress (php8, mysql8, ubuntu 20.0), it can't be run by a 512m vps. so releasing this kind of product just for test?

As most have said, you can do alot still with a 512 mb vps. Back in the days right here, people demanded 64mb vps (iirc Debian was and seems to still be the flavour of choice for this). I am wondering if someone will be able to tune wordpress to run on a 512mb vps, I feel this might still be possible.

Hey, I'll use any excuse to justify new computer purchases. I bought a 5900X yesterday just because it was on sale and not because of need.

I upgraded from 64GB to 128GB RAM just to tell a support agent to fuck off with saying the buggy lag he's supposed to be fixing is from multitasking with chrome and outlook open.

use up all the asigned budget is my responsibility. If I told my client and my non-tech boss your app runs on 512mb, my job is fucked, or at least, budget cut next time.

  • I understood everything.
OP is @Francisco. He's taken the 512m line off the market and now he's wondering why other providers haven't followed suit)

Just wait til you hear about the 32mb, 64mb and 128mb VPS that were common 10 years ago

One of our first offers on LEB was 128mb ram, 5GB disk.

    https://lowendbox.com/blog/fanatical-vps-5-128mb-openvz-vps-in-germany/

    Thats Classic.

@LordSpock said: LEB was originally running on a few hundred megabytes of memory.

Currently after using Cloudflare as CDN that can work even now.

    @ehhthing said:
64 MB is actually quite usable in OVZ boxes if you run an Alpine base image and use it like a Docker container with a microservice.

They can work in KVM configuration as well though custom os have to be compiled through source packages.

    Reference Reading Links:

  • If you use debian instead of ubuntu wordpress should be fine for a small site. Also these VPS's are perfect for running proxies ans VPN's
