PM
Wow thats pretty good plan, sadly they network in sydney not too good for me
You should have offered them here! Many are looking for more Hosthatch!
I thought about it, but no. I don't want to open any more tickets with Hosthatch. One of my server has been offline&unusable for more than 15 days and they still haven't answered my ticket to solve the problem.
No, I don't recommend production environment with them as well. When the server is running well, everything is ok. But when problem occurs, you'll lose money or your project. I don't think "it's low-end" is the proper excuse for not answering server down tickets.
I don't think people would have minded here, well worth the gamble imo. Have gotten nothing but amazing servers from them, you just need to be patient when dealing with their (lack of) support.
I'm sorry but this is not about patience. Production environment needs secure and stability. When your production server goes down and nobody takes care of you, yeah, you could have patience with their lack of support, but would your customers or clients have patience with you?
Yeah, there was someone also said, you should have a backup server available with host B so that you could always redirect to your backup server when shit happens with host A. Yes, that's the usual protocol for dealing with unplanned downtime. But hey, this is only a walk around, this doesn't mean host A could be able not to take on their responsibility.
After all, we should keep this in mind: when we are paying for a hosting service, we are paying it for it's being online. It's the hosting provider's right to ask for low price or big price for their services, but it's also his duty to keep the service online if he accepted the price agreement.
Please do not use our Storage VMs to host your customers or any production usage that requires extremely high uptime. We will be making this even more clear in our future marketing.
Wait, why?
Yeah, @hosthatch you're going to need to explain your comment. I haven't had any problems with storage nodes in the past, should I start being worried?
Our storage VMs are meant to be used for backups and other cold/mass storage uses. Our NVMe VMs are for production.
If an NVMe node fails, we're ready to set up everyone in hours. If a storage node fails, we have to find hundreds of TBs of available capacity, which takes more time.
We sometimes sell storage VMs at $1/TB/month. If you are running your customer workloads on them and losing millions when it goes down, then please buy more than one and design it to be redundant in the first place.
