sucks!
mine is running awesome, maybe you need to do some of the OS optimization/Performance Optimization it mentions.

What firmware are you running?
is this the 120gb version?
Are you running these drives in a RAID config? There have been many issues reported with the 840 series and RAID in the past.
i got the 250GB version, no RAID ... can't use the special cache stuff from what I recall.
running this firmware (this is an older pic I took)
Is that the latest firmware? I read on WHT earlier that a new firmware had been released to improve some of the issues folks were facing with the EVOs.
it's the latest they have available
it's been out for a little while though
definitely do the upgrade to the firmware!
back your stuff up though prior to doing.
turn on the RAPID mode though, an FYI.
dude he's got the 120gb version its def slower than 240gb. ppl need to realise how ssd works
120 < 240 <5xx
240 is two 120 in raids
512 is two 256 in raids.(not sure if the evo has the 512 version but you get tge idea)
the benchmark on most ssd boxes are based on the 512gb version. This is not hdd you dont expect a 120 or 128gb to perform better than the 240/250/256 version and 2xx to be faster than 5xx .
No.
But the 120GB model is slower. Have you enabled RAPID mode?
120GB models of ALL drives out there are slower than 250GB in most cases. This has to do with the number of NANDs and channels on the controller.
I got the 250GB Evo. It's similar price to the Sandisk Extreme 2 128GB model - so pick and Evo is faster in that case.
Already tried all 3 options
Latest and the same as @doughnet
Just turned on RAPID mode, getting 600 mb/s read and 750 mb/s write now
I'm happy with this performance on a Laptop
Yeah, without RAPID it's trash. I only recommend EVO on PC that's Windows and can run RAPID.
are you on sata3?
Yep
@joodle thats so low, I have, with the PRO series, the top of every test. VERY happy with it, my laptop is hyper fast
Well, PRO is different, including at cell level. We cannot compare the two.
@Maounique I thought the EVO was better than mine
It is not, has triple bits in a cell while pro only 2. This means writing is much faster in theory and lasts more. In reading should not be much of a difference.
nice to know new things
evo is cheaper than the pro though ... so it depends on how much cash you want to through at your SSD
i have pro versions in my other systems, but have been using the evo since it came out to try it out .... great bang for your buck definitely.
What drivers are you using in windows for the controller?
AMD SATA Controller
They up to date?
Yep, latest ones
I'm annoyed with samsung not letting 840 pro users use rapid mode.
Buy an EVO then =-p
I bought a 250GB EVO for my desktop last week.
What kind of results are you seeing from CyrstalDiskMark?
Well I'm not annoyed, it works excellent my SSD. The speed of my laptop is pretty good
Rapid mode is because of caching mechanisme to improve perfomance of tlc nand. I think the pro using mlc nand and the performance is already good.
Anyone have performance data on Linux yet?
