Greetings all. I've been looking at Nocix's dedicated server offerings and had several questions.
Regarding the customizable dedicated server offerings:
1) If I register for Microsoft's trial license of Microsoft Server 2019, is it okay for me to use that on Nocix servers for the license trial period?
2) Is there a charge for using a kvm to install it?
Preconfigured server questions:
1) Do they offer the ability to boot to a Linux rescue image?
2) Can the rescue image be used to install other Linux operating systems that aren't directly offered by Nocix?

you want to load a rescue image instead of just the net-install iso of your distro? you can mount isos so wtf, what kind of question is that?

I did open ticket, but I haven't heard anything. Tried submitting both via their web form and a direct email. It's been the better part of two days.
The question regarding the KVM is mainly due to that I'm a bit new to this and it's hard to know what is normal without asking others like yourself who are more experienced. So far I haven't been charged for using a KVM at the two places I've needed one, but that's not enough of a sample for me to get an idea if that's the typical approach.

By KVM, I assume what @monkeybananas meant was a KVM switch. Which is an addon in most places and
I've paid almost $100 to use KVM at a place that I'm not going to name drop.
It depends on the provider. They might not have KVM/IPMI support though if my memory serves correct. You'll be better off asking the provider directly.
Everyone was new to this at some point, don't feel bad about asking questions. The other person is just projecting their own unhappiness.

That's right. My bad for not clarifying that in the first set of questions regarding customizable dedicated servers.
In the second set of questions referencing their preconfigured offerings, I assume that if Nocix did offer the ability to boot to a Linux rescue, I could use QEMU to initiate an install or if they have another method I could use that as well. I'm less familiar with IPMI, so far I've only had one place that I attempted to get it working.

Most bare metal hosts will allow you to use a KVM (temporarily) for free. I'm not sure how Nocix works, but if they don't have an auto install profile for the OS you want, you can load up a netboot.xyz ISO via KVM and install that way, or use a live OS like System Rescue CD and run an install like that.
Nocix is very restrictive on what you can load. Only custom servers have IPMI availability to install your own OS. Their SysRescue image is 10+ years old and does not support LVM yet all their images are LVM based. So kiss rescuing a system goodbye. I asked that they update the SysRescue and they wouldn't, so I canceled my dedi.

It's very important to remember that nocix is for staging or production if a day of downtime isn't going to bother you. Their outages tend to be medium in length, prepare for 12-24 hours for good measure. Just not a lot of diversity in the cables.

If I wanted to use something for production, which providers in the US would be worth looking at?
Here are a few pieces of info that might help guide suggestions:
At the moment, I'm trialing a Hetzner box. That has been a good experience. In fact the only downside is that the data I'm piping comes from the US, heads to Germany, then returns back to the US. That transit time adds additional delay that I would prefer to improve.
OVH Canada is worth a look. Close enough for US. Hell, SoYouStart or Kimsufi, their side brands, are even great. Always backup daily or more on Kimsufi though because it's a budget brand.
Take a look at TailorMadeServers, send them an email with what you need if something exact isn't listed. Jose, who runs it is excellent to work with and will definitely have something in your price in Dallas.
I don't think it's your bad. The first response was harsh. And unwarranted. And uneducated since there's KVM in linux and KVM in the sense of switches (hardware) and the first commenter wasn't aware but took the approach of bashing someone who actually knew more than 1st comment.

OP is clearly asking the install-by-kvm-using-usb-key used for installing OS on dedicated servers. Some hosts charge for it. Some like hetzner don't charge.
Almost all hosts have some kind of rescue image for self troubleshooting. So, that people don't open support tickets for every small issue. You can even use QEMU with VNC to install any OS in a dedicated server as well using the rescue image for free.
I’ve used nocix for years and their support replies very fast, usually within 10 minutes if something happens (unless it is a holiday). You can use a trial or your own windows license. Iirc they provide access to kvm over ip for free for a certain period of time (think it was 24 hours) and then you need to pay for above that. Note that the kvm over ip is not available on their instant servers - only the custom ones. They do provide rescue environments. If you are referring to kvm for virtualization, it is free and has nothing to do with nocix. There are paid implementations of kvm out there such as solusvm.
We could probably do something around the 7th gen or 8th gen range.
