All this talk about beer and I ended up drunk ordering another VPS... oops!

Could I get some double bw on it? Thanks!

    Order Number is: 6976959965

    Nice. :D

Jokes aside, I have to be careful too when I have a few because these prices are too tempting even if I don't need more servers yet.

I don't even need to be drunk to order servers I don't need :D

  • I wanted to move my client exec license from one RackNerd VPS to another. Same domain name, just a different RackNerd IP. Does anyone know if this would cause a problem?

I'll see about putting it in the machine tonight, if not, hopefully tomorrow sometime. I'm curious as to how well that Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz will perform along with that 'beast' of a graphics card known as the GeForce 8500 GT. :D

Congrats .... So what are you building with theses? Home NAS?

I'm thinking a retro gaming rig, as I already have the Xeon powered machine as my home server/NAS.

Yup, that E3 beauty.. how is that working? You setup a raid on that? or just normal setup?

It has a pile of mismatched HDDs so just normal setup. Working great, and the Xeon has upped my power draw only about 9 watts on 120V. Actually that might be the graphics card I added since the i3 had iGPU and the Xeon doesn't. I guess a Radeon 2400 Pro pulls 9W. lol

Isn't e3 enough for NAS? Why do we need graphics card? For desktop option?

It sits in my living room at my desk so it serves a dual purpose of displaying my security cameras on a small wall mounted TV, and sometimes its just easier for diagnosis. Its a desktop PC converted to server, just nice to have the option, especially for changing BIOS settings if I want to play with overclocking or just have a live display.

Cool... I guess you have a server room at your home.. :p

I have a little 640sqft home. So a server in my living room is hardly a server room. :D

Its really quiet actually, full tower case with large fans makes for less noise than a 1 or 2U server with tiny fans screaming.

EDIT: My apartment was actually better because electric was included in the rent, so I could run as many machines as I wanted, no matter how inefficient.

that's interesting. I think it's depends on location. where I live power is much expensive in city center and apartment but in suburbs it's much stabler and cheaper.

That's do the trick :) but when you need more performance or GPU or server chassis, that make a lot of noises.
by experience HDD is much better with RPI PCIe bandwidth

Well i want 2x1tb raid for my pi
And 6x 4tb (maybe in like 6 years lol... shit's expensive) in my "server" i.e. spare free pc
Which i modded with esp8266 and relay so my pi can turn in on and off remotely (could open port and do.it from anywhere aswell)

My plan is to have let's say 200gb limit on the pi, so as soon as that's crossed, all data from the pi goes on the server

Because server will stay off and rpi is silent i dont have stupid fan noise in my room 24/7

Problem is getting 6x 4tb or preferably larger, like 100-120€ a pop (server was free)

Software aint a problem, i know my python well

Problem is my monitor.i planned to use as second one broke so gotta find another one

Basically dual monitor setup with an option to use 2pc's at the same time... playing a game and rendering/coding does not go well on one machine, i want that fps (i have 60hz tv from 2013 or whatever haha)
