I don't even need to be drunk to order servers I don't need
Me neither, but it helps.
I wanted to move my client exec license from one RackNerd VPS to another. Same domain name, just a different RackNerd IP. Does anyone know if this would cause a problem?
No problem as long as its on RackNerd services.
I have a little 640sqft home. So a server in my living room is hardly a server room.
better than apartment tho. I never can manage a server in my home. how do you handle the noise of server ? that should be tricky
my server is rpi 4b with a fanless case, works great tbh
just need some SSD's/HDD's but sooo expensive...
Its really quiet actually, full tower case with large fans makes for less noise than a 1 or 2U server with tiny fans screaming.
EDIT: My apartment was actually better because electric was included in the rent, so I could run as many machines as I wanted, no matter how inefficient.
Here's my cat for fun.
That's do the trick
but when you need more performance or GPU or server chassis, that make a lot of noises.
by experience HDD is much better with RPI PCIe bandwidth
RPIs are so perfect for small setups. Heck mine runs Plex too and it works beautifully.
Full tower case is much better to handle the noise than 2U server. they just SCREAM! but I retirement some 1/2U servers. so I wanted to host in home but that was not beautiful
that's interesting. I think it's depends on location. where I live power is much expensive in city center and apartment but in suburbs it's much stabler and cheaper.
And very power efficient!
sooooo cute
, so what is he wondering about ?
He's probably wondering why we haven't gone to bed yet. He's a cuddly baby.
If I stay up too late he starts to yell. lol

Well i want 2x1tb raid for my pi
And 6x 4tb (maybe in like 6 years lol... shit's expensive) in my "server" i.e. spare free pc
Which i modded with esp8266 and relay so my pi can turn in on and off remotely (could open port and do.it from anywhere aswell)
My plan is to have let's say 200gb limit on the pi, so as soon as that's crossed, all data from the pi goes on the server
Because server will stay off and rpi is silent i dont have stupid fan noise in my room 24/7
Problem is getting 6x 4tb or preferably larger, like 100-120€ a pop (server was free)
Software aint a problem, i know my python well
Oh also, the free server/pc i got is supposed to have a purpose as coding/dev machne, just need 15m hdmi cable and well like 512gb ssd
Problem is my monitor.i planned to use as second one broke so gotta find another one
Basically dual monitor setup with an option to use 2pc's at the same time... playing a game and rendering/coding does not go well on one machine, i want that fps (i have 60hz tv from 2013 or whatever haha)
In my household we sleep best with fan noise so the server sound is always drowned out, if not just adding to the white noise.
Water cool it
That would be cool system!
after chia fever I was expected to see lower prices but no news comes out about cheaper HDD/SSD. I hope you can buy it sooner
but what will be your raid configs for something like this ? Raid 1, 5, 10 ?
Basically I'm unable to code with one monitor this days.
you can not call fan sounds of 1/2U servers noises, those beast just SCREAM.
Did you have any experience water cool 1/2U servers ? I didn't see any kit for that.
or maybe something like this interesting ! https://youtube.com/watch?v=PvmMs6mU0NU
EDIT: just watch the Video, you will not regret

So what you're saying is, you've got a server home

Hi @Andrews -- appreciate you placing another order with RackNerd
We've doubled your bandwidth for this VPS.
