would be even deadlier if i didn't loose access to my lab/workshop... 2020 sucks, 2022 will be way better !

tbh the reason im here because i can't do chem/real life things... so got into IT, needed VPS and well.. discovered racknerd and this forum

Oh man, that's rough. It also sounds like a pretty common path. I had some friends who studied ChemE in college; now one does IT and the other does Data Science.

  • I'm looking at steps to do after getting a new RackNerd VPS. So far I have
    1) Create separate sudo user and disallow root login
    2) Change SSH to RSAKey or move to high port
    3) Install/configure UFW
    4) Install/configure fail2ban
Am I missing anything for hardening?

Update the system and do auto Backup for production/important stuff. Backup is very important I have been harmed for not doing backup some years ago. I hope RN will provide auto backup as add-ons for their products in future too. I will be first one to get it.

yes i host on root user, yes i'll go to hell

also on this server is nginx hosting vscode in a browser and a rtsp server
    also wireguard i think

but api with redis is/was main purpose of this so im pretty happy as it fulfils it's destiny
im thinking on expanding my api but not sure what could be useful, tho thinking of adding youtube/twitter/instagram stuff... not sure...
