Party, giveaway? Did someone say giveaway?
    Where? When? Who?

EDIT: After rereading what I wrote above I realize I am getting punchy and should get some sleep.

Only thing I wish for is IPv6 in all locations. Otherwise I love my RackNerd KVM.

If you win something like that I'd be down to pitch in on the extra shipping costs if that would help get a physical prize/merch to you. Maybe others would as well?

Or are there other hurdles besides shipping costs?

  • @BlazinDimes said: Or are there other hurdles besides shipping costs?

customs prob raping my package like always.... if it's expensive item then i have to pay import tax i think 19%

Overseas shipping is kind of atrocious right now, unfortunately.

Yeah that sounds wild, what if we disassemble said expensive item and say its for parts so we can claim less value to customs? haha

  • @Xrmaddness said: Seriously? 19%?! How expensive is "expensive"?

    in theory 0.01€
in practice about 20-30€ they start to bother and ask people to pay

    oh, it INCLUDES shipping

once i bought connectors from china for 30€ plus 30€ shipping... (could not find them anywhere else, i looked for days) paid like 20€ customs on top

i mean... you can say the value is 1€ but if it gets lost or they find out you lied, well you might get problems

but tbh, i dont see why private individuals should pay shitty import tax... but oh well

    Wow, that's pretty outrageous

  • @Xrmaddness said: Wow, that's pretty outrageous

so imagine i won the xbox, would be nice but would have to pay 100€ for shipping/tax/whatever which i don't have, so would need to borrow money to get a xbox... or dustin would have to pay tax/shipping for me, people would get mad and stuff...

    prob i would:
    A: not take the prize
B: pay shipping and taxes myself (because asking for 100€ ON TOP of already aa very generous gift is pretty scammy if you ask me)

oh and disclaimer im prob not getting that xbox i was 3 days late and i don't spam this channel that much

@FrankZ -- good stuff :) Benchmarks are looking excellent as well!

We are in the process of phasing out our SSD cached infrastructure in Los Angeles and as you've pointed out, some customers are already starting to get migration notices letting them know they've been upgraded to pure SSD infrastructure at no extra charge. All of our other locations are already running on 100% pure SSD infrastructure :) We are making solid progress and have about ~30 more nodes to upgrade.

Thank You for being our valued customer.

No, it was just a pleasant surprise. I had asked support for IPv6 and they said they would need to move me to a new node. They said they expected moving everybody off the old SSD-cached nodes by the end of the year anyway so would I have any objections to moving now. Of course I said no problem. :)

Thats nice to hear.. Upgrading their equipment continously shows their commitment to the service and customer experience. 👍

@xpress7 -- we're fully committed to our customers and appreciate you recognizing this. Thank You for being our customer as well as an active member of this community :)

I'll just straight ask... what do you do with old decommissioned hardware?
does it all land on ebay/auction sites?

i wonder what racknerd does with old hardware... does it go on ebay? or do i smell a giveaway, i meeeean i wouldnt mind a 4U server, 12V psu's are cheap nowadays

Hahaha, doesn't sound like a bad idea :) Most of the time, the hardware is securely repurposed and rented out to bare metal/dedicated server customers. Idle inventory does not tend to sit very long here, especially in today's market.
