That's probably not going to happen anytime soon.

But I do have a stack of 120GB IDE drives, that I use as a door stop, that I could probably part with.
I think I have some DDR2 left, somewhere, maybe, because they are going up in price as always. But hell yeah man, thanks for the offer even a matching-ish set of 1GB sticks though would probably be plenty for this rig and make it a sweet old school gaming rig. Maybe I could actually convince my son that old games are cool. Haha
I'll post up pics of what was given to me in a second. I've only looked at it once. My buddy just wanted it out of his car.
LOL. will join you people tomorrow then. Sleep tight bro..
eh got some shitty coding todo... but wasted like 4h on games already lol
Few closer pics too if anybody is curious.
SMARTPOWER
sounds like firehazard to me lol
also way cleaner than i expected
Look closer, its an Antec. lol
I'll probably open it up either way.
@BlazinDimes
I have some dead Dell vostro i5 laptop, which was damaged by spilling of water mistakenly few years back (2016 maybe). I teared open it watching some youtube video, but never fixed it. I got so irritated with it, that I didn't even fix the screws back. Just left it in a box.
May be we can work together to wake it up from dead.. 😝
You are a programmer? What languages you do code?
I have no idea. I won two vps, but I don’t know what to do.
Who can share some interesting source code?
@FrankZ Idk what it costs you to ship RAM to the midwest US, if its less than I can buy the RAM for on eBay then I would be more than willing to pay shipping even. Better to use it than toss it out!
Github... 😉
Just double checked, I have a matched set of
HYS72T1128020HFN-3S-A, 1GB 2RxR8 PC2-5300F-555-10-B0 with heat sinks.
water damage is pain
did you manage to figure out what is even broken?
I've been given a handful of laptops that people have damaged and then taken apart, then they give them to me completely disassembled and so far I've had success at reviving them. Even one i3 rig that got stepped on, tossed down the stairs, and sat long enough for things to get rusty while disassembled.
not really, im a nutrician but kinda a chemist...
anyways i know some py, some js, bits java...
i just make whatever i need (currently beeing a FAQ bot on discord)
would post a pic but it does not wanna work...
Just checked what I have, and I have a matched pair of
HYS64T128020HU-3S-B, 1GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300U-555-12-E0. (no heat sinks)
Perfect! All PC2-5300
I assume you meant a pair? Or do you have all 4 matching? If thats the case I might have to revive this HP desktop too. Just noticed it has a AMD Radeon 2400 PRO in it haha
@DeadlyChemist here's your pic
I just checked shipping cost. It is more to send them to you that to buy on ebay. So I'll just send them from ebay.
Didn't remember. I thought it was keyboard. Blown some air, dried it. It booted but stopped again. That lapotp's hinge was also broken by that time( common complaint for that dell vostro model). So I got irritated and bought a new laptop instead.
You outside of the US? Thanks man, that's super cool. I didn't even know what to do with this thing but just bringing it up in this thread has given me a bunch of fun ideas.
Mostly retro gaming rig. This thing looks solid.
yeah... i sometimes spent a looot of time on fixing stuff not worth it... good chellenge tho
Good to hear that. I will search my laptop in store room, and will post some pictures later. May be you'll get some idea about it.
I know what you mean
In 2020 I repaired a Dell Latitude E6400 motherboard that had years old energy drink damage and sat, using little more than Ether (starting fluid), a quick rinse in the shower, then some peroxide to rinse. Literally all I had on hand after moving into the new house and a replacement was only $10 so it was supposed to be just a fun failure.
Son-of-a-bitch worked and STILL RUNS TODAY.
WHAT!? haha
I do not recommend this method at ALL.
currently doing more IT because dont have space todo chem... as for other stuff, no space/money so IT is only one left... some electronics too
i would say the worst repairs are then caps go nuclear and multi layer board is charred all the way thru, i used small sand discs to get rid of shorted layers...
if you dont have schematics or another board to compare, GG good luck
we need right to repair...
Yep, Mexico. You should pick out what you want on EBay, $20 or less and I will reimburse you via PayPal just PM me an EBay link and your PayPal address.
What a genuinely nice thing to do. Good on you!
Thank you.
