Quickbox.io user here with my Dedicated server and Google Drive.

Any reason you're using a seedbox along with a dedi?

Intel iGPU for plex/emby/jellyfin for hardware transcoding, and fuse enabled rclone/mergerFS for the remote google drive. And overall more control and easier app integrations, between sonarr/radarr/bazarr/plex and finally its self managed so it wont go under even if the provider fucks up.

My SYS2 1541 seems to hold up great while transcoding 4K videos. I wish there was an integrated GPU as well.

Why would you transcode at all? - never understood this to be honest.

I'm currently in a location with slow internet so I drop it down to 1080 or 720 when I need it

Why not grab a 1080p/720p version ? makes no sense to get 4K to transcode it

Because I'm not always on shit network?

Still doesn't stop you grabbing a 1080p/720p version - unless you're strapped for HD space.

I am. I'm not sure what's the issue here. If i can get 4K and transcode without issue why get multiple copies. I can watch 4K on the TV at home and worst case transcode to lower res in shitty reception areas. What am I missing here?

Your not missing anything - I'm saying It doesn't makes sense to transcode a 4K file on a server that will struggle to do so when you can just direct stream 1080p/720p file which in reality will play and look better then transcoding a 4K file.

The 1541 barely goes up 60% usage when transcoding.

60% for no reason  - but it works for you which is all that matters.

It's not doing anything else so why not 🙂

Like I said - a good 1080p encode will look far better than a 4K transcoded file over Plex. So to me personally it seems a bit bonkers to do it

Hmm didn't know that - might have to test it out!

In reality - Some 4K isn't even native 4K - so you're getting hoodwinked there straight away.

That makes sense! Time to put that 16TB and Gdrive to good use.

Out of curiosity - what is the general file size of the 4K stuff you're watching?

    Anywhere between 40-80 gigs

Soon fill up your 16tb then

Google drive is going to step in then ;)

  • @OsirisBlack what does your setup look like?

I have a server running unraid ~50tb at home with all my 4K stuff on (backed up on GD which is also mounted on the server)

I have a couple of servers - 1 @ NFOrce and 1 @ OVH ~40tb Between them that manage my linux iso's - these are also connected to my unraid in differing ways for differing reasons.

This is then dedicated to my Home Cinema - So I can watch the 4K stuff as it should look
