240Hz monitors? You play a lot of FPS games @dustinc ?

The only game I play (for now that is) Warzone -- and the graphics, FPS are pretty good with these builds. I had https://sensequality.com/ work his optimization magic.

Holy shit, I do not charge enough for what I do.

Get in on it! Tons of opportunity.

I love optimization and I sometimes even do it for free. I can get a Core 2 Quad and a Radeon 4000 series on an Intel mobo built in '06 playing games from 2016 and made an R6300v2 Netgear that is probably 10 years old now outperform a new Nighthawk so damn well my buddy returned it for the few hundred he spent on it.

I mean, spec wise? No I can't beat spendy hardware, but I can do some interesting things with what others consider to be useless.

Its just a challenge I enjoy taking on.

We can do wonders when our budget is very tight, right... ๐Ÿ˜œ

Exactly. When money is tight, we do what we can with what we have.

I like breathing new life into old gear, but yeah it was born from necessity originally lol

Me too.. I like tinkering the with old hardware as well. I love flashing new firmware from xda in my old mobiles.

Recently started tinkering with routers too.. Flashed openwrt in my Nighthawk 7500 .. So far good..

    I like flashing too...

    ....new roms, you dirty mind!

    When did you started flashing?

A little earlier than you. Motorola defy red lens was my second phone... Waterproof, great battery life, indestructable build quality...

First was samsung galaxy ace... I did all sorts of experiments upon it ..

Galaxy ace have ROMs too? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Ha ha that waterproof thing. The best in the phone. I used to clean my phone at tap, and my friends got panic.. My best phone ever. And that red lens green lens discussion on xda... I flashed the wrong rom what to do questions... ๐Ÿ˜

oh yes... i used to dip it in water glass to win a bet often :D

i wish something as innovative would come these days... and yes... red lens was actually a defy plus with some things disabled from the chipset... flashing red lens roms would enable HD recordings and unlocked the camera... good o'l days...

Ha ha. good old days indeed. Flashing was so much fun. Now with GBs and GBs of important data, can't even thinking of flashing..

That defy was the best phone I ever had. I got a lg g8x last year. I tried that waterproof adventure thing on this phone, and my power button didn't work for 3 days. ๐Ÿ˜

    Roflmao...
Yes... Gbs of important data... Back then SD cards ruled the world... All important mp3 songs/photos and what not on it...

Crashed the phone? Put the card in the new phone and enjoy!

I got a redmi k20 pro in 2019 august. It has to be the first time i have bought a flagship and honestly, the benefits clearly outrun the costs. Its a decent phone and i think it can help me with one more year at the very least.

Or till @dustinc plans to give away an iphone 13 max pro

Ha ha. You won't leave @dustinc until he gives you something..

K20 is good device. I used Poco F1 before getting this G8X. F1 is such a wonderful developer friendly device. Flashed lots of ROMs intlo. No worry about bricking. These phones are real flagship killers.

Yes k20 was supposed to be a successor to f1. I actually ordered and cancelled the F1. K20 was overpriced, but i still bit the bullet. It was the flagship xiaomi phone.

I have been very lucky with mi phones, they are definitely built to last. I had redmi 1s, the first phone to launch in our country. It still powered up and worked after 7 years :-l .

I do itch for an upgrade sometimes, but its more like based out of greed than necessity. So i defer it for a year, not much has actually changed in the tehnology landscape except faster charging and higher refresh rate.

True. These are great phones. I bought the F1 when they launched the red color. It felt awesome. As the warranty doesn't void even if we unlock bootloader, I unlocked the phone on 3rd day itself. Flashed a xiaomi EU ROM. These EU roms are better than normal ROMs, without mi ads and bloatware.

I waited long for them to launch F2, but they didn't. So I bought G8X. (for almost same price as Poco F1, on flipkart bigbillion sale) Dual Screen pulled me. But never used the dual screen extension till now, apart from experimenting few hours. This is a good phone, but no developer support. No ROMs nothing. There are some experiments in xda, but I didn't take risk.

LG has almost always shyed away from being a hot developer favourite.

Mi devices on the other hand have always been welcomed. I for some reason absolutely dislike BBK(I call it bhak bhos@di ke) group of phones. They are just not my kind and their software is bloated. I dont understand at all whats the hype around oneplus for!!

I've split the screen aside for the let thread. Working on the remaing space. Developing a ecom site for some client (freelance). Deadline is almost over.. so working my ass off.. my eyes are burning.. but have to finish the work at any cost..

Yup. I usually prefer dev friendly phones. but G8X tempted me with that dual screen at cheap price. So bit the bulled. Build quality is gread, really feels premium with entire glass buld.

Oneplus One was great device bro. True flagship. . I've used it for more than 2 years. Awesome phone... superb device at cheap price. And great marketing. Can't forget those invite based purcheses..... Later they became greedy, still maintained some innovation. And when Carl Pei left the company .. nothing left in oneplus except their brand name.

  • Yes. I liked the concept.. one phone one year flagship killer.

Then it came to T models and cheaper models and what not. Did not like how they kept on changing their goals.

I am loyal to Mi. Spares are cheap and easily available.

I hope you are enjoying the LG phone. Dual screen came in as an accessory?

Lets see if i can grab myself one good phone in this upcoming big billion sales.

  • Or maybe.... If i can tempt @dustinc to give me a galaxy fold 3?

    :Wink wink:

Their left their intial flagship killer cocept , and wanted to cash every possible way they can. Thats when I started to hate them. Once I was very active on their forums, left them after oneplus 3 release.

MI is the best vmf phones available now, with solid build quality, not doubt in that.

My G8X working great, except the poor signal reception. I paid 18.2k, and the features it offers are awesome. Amoled Screen, reverse charging, very good camera and premium looks.

And it has a desktop mode. I bought a Type-c to HDMI cable, and when I connect it to my monitor, it goes to desktop mode. Almost like a pc. A bit sluggish, but will be useful when required.

Yeah, dual screen is like flip cover. We have to insert the phone inside the cover (type c port). And the second screen works.

Backing up a 128GB phone when you have only a 256GB SSD can be interesting when you need to reflash. :D

You ever need any help doing custom FW on Netgears (or others) hit me up, I have done so much work with 'em and have just tons of data saved on this. I hit up random people on Reddit and fix their "bricked" routers for free just because I've put so much work in myself and would rather not see them go in the trash.

This is the definition of a good guy! Love seeing this man, especially within this community. We need more people like you. Helping and giving are awesome things to do.

What a comment to wake up to, thanks man! Nice to feel appreciated! I just enjoy helping people out. I also enjoy a new challenge at times.

Working on other people's electronics also means I get to work on things I might not have worked on before.

First thing I did with my Pixel 5 was flash a custom ROM, I just can't help it.

Backing up a 128GB phone when you have only a 256GB SSD can be interesting when you need to reflash. :D

Flashing is like itching.. The more you scratch.....

That's awesome man - always respect people who have that gift, one thing that I love seeing is when people create awesome projects out of raspberry pi.

When I got my first Raspberry Pi I was in heaven, but at the same time it took away the challenge of making a device do something it was never meant to do.

They are super fun and useful, I've got a 3B+, a 4 w/ 4GB RAM, and also a lesser known Banana Pi R2 that I built into a custom 4G LTE router using a Sierra Wireless mPCI card, was quite useful when I lived out in the boonies where 1.5mbit DSL w/ 300ms ping was the best you could get.

The 4G ripped 40mbit up and down and 40ms ping, what an upgrade.

    Excellent maker devices.

Awesome! I feel like if you're up for it, you would be an asset to LEB (writing tutorials) on gigs like this. You would simply reach out to the team, and contribute any articles of your choice, and there's a high chance they'll feature it.

I know I would engage and happily read!

I always answer things like this with "I'm not much of a writer" but looking at my own postings, maybe I'm wrong and I should give it a try next time I'm building something unique, or maybe share some tutorials made out of the notes I have compiled over the years. Possibilities are endless for 2022!

I love to write tutorials as well. Had a website on programming around 2009. Made around $80 in adsense as well. Later caught up with life, and left the website. Just renewing the domain every year, in the hope of restarting it again.

I will make a resolution to restart my website in the first month of 2022.

The ol' reliable home server I use for Plex and home automation is going to be pleased with the bump in multithreading. Its almost 10 years old so this will be better than the i3. Surprised the mobo supports a Xeon as its a mid-range Asus desktop board from 2012ish? But there was 3 on the list of supported CPUs and I jokingly brought that up to @dustinc in the Black Friday thread, lo and behold he hooked it up after some overwhelming community support. That was so cool.
