Does anyone remember the Cobalt Qube ?

Hello,

Does anyone (being old enough) to remember the Cobalt Qube (1998-2002), an all in one , ready to use web server.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobalt_Qube

This was at the time, I was beginning to consider a dedicated server (didn't know such thing existed) to replace my shared hosting, and I was so enthusiast at the idea of getting such server on my newly DSL connection ( 512kb down, 128kb up) : :# (never happened)

This thing looks like a cooler.
Can it serve ice cold Coca Cola?

  • I remember it. I wanted one, but I was in high school and had no real need for it.

In theory it could, as there was actually a kidnapped Vietnamese child inside each one handling the 'automation'.

I never had one of these, but had many of the various RaQ servers.

  • RaQ XTR was a real joy.

Yeah, I was swimming with those back in the day.

Loved it and hated 'em at the same time. Just like women.

My first stint as a support tech for a host involved setting up a RaQ... top of the line at that time.. early 1998-2000...

The system and ui was slick for that era!

  • Oh and these servers were hosted at Rackspace.. and at that time I thought it was a custom server from Rackspace...

Yes, had both a Qube and a couple of Raqs. I liked them but had the feeling they were a poor mans Sun (which I very much preferred). Still, friends of mine (and myself a bit supporting them) ran a local ISP and some hosting largely based on Raqs.

Imagine if Apple bought them out and transitioned to their usual nomenclature...

  • @SteveMC Did you ever have their most popular offering? I think it was called the Nice RaQ.
