Scaleway Upcoming pricing changes as of January 1, 2022 | All Dedibox Servers +€1/month

Upcoming pricing changes
as of January 1, 2022

Hi,
Scaleway regularly updates its pricing to reflect the ever-changing nature of the market, and we are writing to inform you of a price increase on certain products and services.
These changes will be effective as of January 1, 2022, and will be automatically applied to all affected services active on that date.

Price increases related to energy costs

We are sure that you have noticed that energy costs have risen sharply in recent years. In the last 12 months, the price of electricity on the market has increased fivefold, and this obviously has a significant impact on our business model.

Evolution of electricity spot pricing

For example, for a server consuming 50W, the cost in electricity per month has increased from €1.44 to €7.20, that is to say an additional cost of +€5,76 per month. We have absorbed this increase in costs into our margin as far as possible, but it has become necessary to integrate part of this increase into our fees.

From January 1, 2022, all Dedibox servers will see their monthly price increase by €1/month. This increase will be applied to current and future orders.

Product Price change as of 01/01/2022
All Dedibox servers +€1/month

Price increases related to Microsoft license costs

As for the past 8 years, Microsoft has taken the unilateral decision to increase the prices of its SPLA Windows Server licenses by 10%, and we therefore need to adjust our pricing accordingly.

Microsoft's complex licensing policy prohibits us from offering you anything other than monthly SPLA licenses on your servers, but rest assured that Scaleway is fighting a constant battle to offer you the best of the Microsoft ecosystem under fair conditions.
This new pricing will be applied to all versions of Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022. Please see the below table for the new monthly prices (excluding VAT) based on numbers of CPUs and Cores.

Price increases related to Plesk license costs

The Plesk editor had already increased its prices back in January 2021, an increase which at the time we had not let impact our offer. Another price increase will occur on January 1, 2022 however, and this time, we will adapt our prices accordingly

Edition # of domains Current Price per month Price as of 01/01/2022
Plesk Web Host Edition Unlimited €24.99 €29.99
Plesk Web Pro Edition 30 €6.99 €9.99

We would like to thank you for your loyalty and support over the years, as well as your understanding concerning these price changes. If you have any further questions or concerns regarding this price increase, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes,
The Scaleway Team.

I received the mail too :(
I'm only involved on the +1€/m
Something you have to know: The x5 cost energy only applies on non nuclear energy. In France, we are at 85% nuclear energy, so there is no inpact on our electricy bills... But petrol, gaz, etc had grown up

I would assume that they have contracts on long term, based on nuclear energy, and that this is BS to justify a price increase. But maybe not, they could be buying (some of) their energy on the spot market.

  • What will happen to the atom servers?

  • They've already announced that they're going to EOL all the servers I have with them at the start of April, with a carrot-on-a-stick claim of "new ultra-competitive dedicated server offers" launching in January.

This just feels like them slapping me on my way out.

Atom servers are powered by the peaceful atoms at the nuclear plant.

Yeah, I got an EOL email about one of my v3 Xeon LT deals from a few years ago as well. The thing is that I haven't found anything comparable to it elsewhere, and I would just happily pay them a few more bucks if they want. And I don't get why v3 is EOL. They continue to sell garbage tier atom or westmere type servers. I wonder how they are making any money these days because they don't sell anything competitive. Even at the high end, OVH, hetzner, etc. would beat them.

  • If they reduce price to -1€ will be surprised.

  • O noes. My monthly bill would be increased by 50% to a whopping 3 eur/mo. 😉

  • As far as I see, this is not the first time, online.net/scaleway increased the recurring price of their products.

We are seeing the same thing in Norway. We use hydroelectric power at Terrahost, but since we're tied to other European countries and export a lot of our power, we now see an 3 x increase in power cost over the past 6 months or so. Really fun :)
