Will downloading a file on a VPS affect my home's bandwidth? I am really new to these kind of things.

No.
If you mean that the file is downloaded directly to your VPS and this is the end of the story, then no.
(Obviously, you need a small amount of bandwidth on your home station to communicate with your VPS, but this doesn't involve the downloaded file.)
