Great locations, great special deal.
How do you handle bandwidth overages? Found nothing in ToS or anywhere else....
very exotic locations
Thanks for the reminder we should add some more info about this on our page.
If you go over the bandwidth limit nothing happens. we start getting automated alerts if this is a recurring thing where we will open up a ticket to see if we can adjust the VPS accordingly to suit the usage.
We understand that no one can predict exact monthly usage in advance so we dont punish our clients for the occasion overage
Prem.
consider charging 95% for exceeding the bandwidth?
We some what like the flexible approach where the VPS users wont be struct by the potentially accidental overage bill. No one wants to wake up to a suspended VPS with a a big unexpected overage invoice
Nice offer but bandwidth is too low
@Zappie do you host all your equipment in the compass data centre grafton road? i have been in that data centre quite a few years back and it was pretty shocking the mess for a data centre which did not lend me much confidence in CoLocating my gear in there. Do you happen to have photos of your rack? Maybe it's changed?
@davenz Yep, we have the majority of our infrastructure in DataVault out on Grafton Rd. In the past 6 years they have been really filling up both their DC rooms.
Doesnt have the same fancy lighting as 220Q but they are far nicer than what HDDC was (before selling to voyager at least) which is where we moved from back in 2015.
In our 6 years with DataVault we have not had a single fibre cut, power outage or fire what so ever (planned or unplanned).
We monitor our infrastructure temperatures and their Hot/Cold isles keep things super consistent.
Also we're multi homed with Devoli (AS45177) and GSL (AS137409) so couldn't be happier with our overall set up.
Once Auckland is in Level 2 again, ill try ill go to take some pictures for you
Benchmark for those curious:
4K disk speed isn't exactly bleeding edge, but tolerable.
Network performance and disabled AES-NI/VMx are concerning. @Zappie , can you enable both?
[removed as obsolete]
Thanks for the heads up @IziD , something I missed with 2 of the OS template settings (using generic QEMU CPU instead of host), It should now be live across the board after a reboot of the VM. Might even show some of the above as mitigated too I suspect
As Geekbench crashes while performing multi-core test, here is the single-core result:
Ends-up at 387 points average which is about half of similar nodes offered by @hosthatch in Sydney and 30% of @seriesn (NexusBytes) in Melbourne. Worth noting that competing VPS are single-core.
To emphasize the importance of AES-NI, AES-XTS results:
Restarted, no change. VPS is on the node "Fuji".
Sorry, try rebooting from the panel (so the new config can kick in)
Semantics, I know I know
iperf3
results from various locations in Australia:Melbourne
Sydney
Adelaide
Fixed, thanks. Geekbench 5 clocks at 399/777 for single and dual-core respectively. Was able to run it once and all subsequent attempts resulted in Geekbench being killed / crashing with error code 255. Results link for the single successful test.
Also, "spectre-meltdown-checker" now shows all CVEs as "mitigated".
Can you comment on the high retries in
iperf3
tests above? I have tried to re-run the test after reboot, same if not worse. Sydney:Traceroutes in each direction are going to help
Also remember when testing internationally, if you don't increase buffers and enable BBR you're not going to get the results you expect.
Oh, @trewq ! Long time, no see. Let's try from FlowVPS, shall we?
And the other way around:
Can you explain, please?
@Zappie good to get a background have not been their for years. I just remember seeing Vodafone racks in perfect order and that was a locked caged separated and the rest was pretty rough, but sounds like they have come along way. and I agree with you HD was a shocker
Can't help myself, but bought a KVM in South Africa
Just wanted to give a thumbs-up to Zappiehost here. I've been monitoring one of their VPSes in ZA for four years via Nodeping, and reachability has been 99.114%. That may not sound great, but keep in mind that this is reachability from Europe, not Africa! Good value for the price.
Stoked to hear you’re enjoying it and thanks for being with us for so long!
hi,
looks like the coupon code is expired ..can i get the deal for the 2GB vps please
thanks
@Arkas necro much
