You mean you topped up your account credit? There haven't been services for a while.

The other day I decided to look into the control panel to see how things are going with my storage VPS, which hasn't shown any signs of life in my monitoring system for two+ months now.

The VPS is no longer there. Instead, the account was replenished for the amount of its annual maintenance.
In general, everything is like everyone else.

  • No refounds, no services, cociu is already in hawaii enjoying all the cash he made from selling everything.

  • looking at olx house selling, cannot stop thinking the possibly he may be leaving Romania!

Taking into account his debt, it is an option to leave country.

I don't think it matters where an owner spends time or where he/she lives. What matters is all that involucration and how poorly it was handled. This is my problem, not the place of residence.

Yeah they stopped since @cociu left, HS is running on autopilot.

Well, depends on what one calls "working". I still can access some HS VPS but SSH is very slow and so is connectivity in general. So, working? In theory yes. But actually usable? Nope (except the NO VPS).

But IMO that's besides the point anyway. AFAIC the point (re. 'scam') is whether any customer really got any real refund, as in 'to his bank/paypal/CC account' - and the answer seems to be No.

Now, one might discuss that a scam needs evil intention but I'd argue that at some point in time one can call it a scam when pretty much all promises are broken and instead of real refunds the provider just provides credits to buy products that are not usable.

So my answer to @Francisco is 'Yes'.
I guess it wasn't intended as a scam but it clearly seems to have turned into one de facto.

Another major reason for that (IMO) is the fact that @cociu created immense damage by not communicating and/or making worthless promises ... and he is bloody repeating that psycho pattern just again.

Good to know I'm not entirely crazy then.

Most probably feel the same at this point, even his biggest supporters.

I don't, because a scam REQUIRES intention. There is no way around no matter how the "Top Providers" try to spin it.
Yes, it is a hard and self-inflicted fail, yes, cociu is guilty of everything else including incompetence, but the definition of a scam cannot be changed as we feel like it.
I have bought some credit just to have a dog in the fight and for the lulz to see how it goes from inside but there is little doubt about where it is heading if nothing changes and even then...
I would be happy with anything anywhere no matter how low the speed, I require very little, up to 500 GB a month traffic.

It's turning into a scam when I've explicitly ordered the Norway location and getting services delivered in Oradea, which all related tickets ignored...

Refounding a billion megabucks of credit is useless when you can't use it for anything, may as well have given me a $100000000 Blockbuster gift card so I can rent some sweet Beta videos :)

  • anyone get cash back yet?

I like analogies so lets think of it this way

you have an appointment with neurosurgeon that you already paid for it
when you came to the clinic they tell you sorry the neurosurgeon died in the morning in car crash and we should have new neurosurgeon coming in 1 hour
after 1 hour they till you it will take another 2 hours
    and so on

then after waiting for 10 hours they tell you that you have one of the following 2 options

1- wait indefinitely till we have new neurosurgeon
2- you can see GP doctor now instead

Would you call it a scam ?

now what if you knew that the neurosurgeon that you had initial appointment with didnt die and simply got better offer that day to work for 2x the money that they usually get from clients like you and simply he decided to leave you to see GP doctor instead

Now would you call it a scam ?

    mapping :
neurosurgeon = storage vps (specialized vps)
GP doctor = normal vps in location you didnt choose
    hours: Mondays

if you believe that what happened to the 400 disks was an accident then mostly you will not call it scam , if you believe the 400 disks never failed at once then mostly you will call it a scam

    Agreed.
There are a few problems with that premise, though. This is not a summer operation, not one year, not 2, not 5. To believe he will sink the ship just for a few hundreds, say thousands, profit, when he is maybe literally selling the house to save it, then you are probably mad.

  • jsgjsg Member, Resident Benchmarker

When customers get defrauded -and- contrary to multiple promises do not get a real refund it is a scam. And the word games around the term "intention" don't change that.

Maybe selling the storage products was not a scam but incompetence, bad luck, etc.

But promising both, soon working again VPS and refunding clients but delivering on neither is a scam.
Secondly @cociu didn't ask for promises but for money. And exactly that, money, he must give back unless the customers get what they payed for.

A scam, no matter how one paints it

Oh, and btw, we're not talking storage only; his non storage products don't work properly either. 18 out of 20 network test failed.

  • MaouniqueMaounique Host Rep, Veteran

No, I call that failure, in your theory, every business that fails and can't pay creditors and is over optimistic regarding short term finances is a scam.
It is not, there is a reason why a scam requires intention.

    not perfect analgy.

add new points, clinic boss run away. clinic tools sale on olx cheap, but boss say employee use his name sale tools. he will disable employee.

clinic boss pay no bill for power, surgeon. want service, only GP can. many payed for 3 year surgeon package.

freelance nurse come and say to customers dont worry, clinic boss will explain and bring back surgeon.

boss come back say no problem, 3 year package can give 1 year free. some already refound package but nobody say they get refound.

some go to lawyer and ask refound and quietly get.

now surgeon appointment cannot book. book but cancel.

    now boss selling clinic also.

now another new clinic open and say they have cheap GP price, with old clinic tool buy from above.

You offer cheap storage too, and downtime-karma tends to be a b*tch most of the times. I will remind you of your comment later, when you will fail, or sell to a bigger shark.
