Google Cloud Free Tier VM Upgrade
Got an email:
We’ve identified that you’re using an F1-micro instance that is a part of the Compute Engine Free Tier. As we improve the experience of the Free Tier, we will be introducing the E2-micro VM, which is a part of a second generation VM family. It offers additional resources for your use, specifically 0.25 vCPU (which burst to 2 vCPU periodically) and 1 GB of RAM.
What do I need to know?
The Free Tier F1-micro VM is changing to the E2-micro VM as the VM to use for free. On August 1, 2021, E2-micro Free Tier will be introduced. Follow these steps to change your machine type to E2-micro to avoid incurring charges for continuing to use F1-micro after August 31, 2021.
What do I need to do?
Starting August 1, 2021, change the machine type from F1-micro, or stop your existing F1-micro instance and begin using a E2-micro instance. VMs created with either method will automatically have the Free Tier discount applied to them. The supported regions will remain the same.
Comments
meh.
Are there any BW/network upgrades for the free tier?
What was needed is, a few more gigs of egress per month. I am more than happy with my oracle always free tier.
Thanks for info! 2vCPU burst seems interesting
E2-micro VM No free
Yeah. Maybe they forgot to update the price...
So I still haven't created an e2-micro yet. Let's wait until the next month

Oracle offers much more for free, I hate Oracle but this is the truth.
The VM is free.
But they will charge for external IP and bandwidth.
If you want to host website then Cloudflare Tunnel should fix that - there's no need for public IP and Google is in Bandwidth Alliance with Cloudflare. I don't have free time to check it but it should work fine. I never used GCP so I could be totally wrong tho
There's awesome guide by @eva2000 for CF tunnel https://blog.centminmod.com/2021/02/09/2250/how-to-setup-cloudflare-argo-tunnel-on-centos-7/
Seriously, they need multiple days to change a price?
If Google with an army of staff and supercompetent people cant change a price in seconds, then I think it is only acceptable for Hostsolutions.ro to take months to fix some real technical issues
They said it fixed in their status page, but I still see that I will get charged for a free VM...
I got that email too, middle of July.. Everytime I tried it was showing full price, not free..
Destroyed the existing and moved to a VM I found here.. Cheaper than the 'free' Google one too.
no such things as forever free. Eventually oracle would start charging in the future.
