Streaming Box - Substitute for Vimeo/FB
A small organization to which belong was using FB to live stream weekly events. They've decided to leave FB. As I am the most tech savvy person there, and that is not saying much, I'm in charge of coming up with a substitute. I thought Vimeo would work, but I've just discovered you need the $75 a month premium account to live stream. For $20/m you can host your videos. From Googling, I've found that I can replicate FB/Vimeo with a VPS/Server and open source software.
Is any one selling turnkey boxes? If not, what do you think I would need (resources) to host a weekly live stream event that runs about 5GB at 720p, and is watched by about 20 people? I have a sysadmin who can help me get everything working
My ultimate goal is to embed the code on the organization's website (WordPress) and live stream from a Mevo camera - if possible. If not, I'll be replacing the camera, and buying the right one too.

Why not YouTube live?
twitch, youtube
search twitch/youtube alternative
My organization is trying to escape the whole tech censorship thing. We'd rather pay and control our own content and broadcasting.
OK. Thanks. I'll give it a try.

PeerTube
tbh I would rather pay Vimeo's $75/mo, because they already have the infrastructure and software ready to use & scale. Or maybe you could look at Wix (yes, the website builder thing), they provide live-streaming services too, you might want to check it out
Owncast looks pretty good although I haven't tried it myself. https://github.com/owncast/owncast
AWS MediaLive is $0.234/hr + Bandwidth ($0.085/GB in US). That will cost you around $10 per session ($0.085*5*20 + $0.234/hr). You could further minimize the cost by putting BunnyCDN Volume PoP + Origin Shield (contact them first as they don’t allow live streaming)

What protocol would you be sending the stream with? Take a peek here https://www.pushrcdn.com/hls-live-streaming-cdn and if it sounds like something that works for you I would be happy to help with getting you started.
Gday
Most Mainstream " platforms " support censorship in 2015-2025
These being
Youtube/Google
Fakebook
Twitch
Vimeo
Amazon/S3
Dlive
Trovo
Bitwave
etc
If your looking to self host your own
Video hosting site I would recommend :-
Example - https://videos.lukesmith.xyz/
MediaCMS - https://mediacms.io/ https://github.com/mediacms-io/mediacms
Example - https://demo.mediacms.io/
Tube - New - https://prologic.github.io/tube/
Ngnix supports RMTP streaming
Peertube supports RMTP streaming with 3.x - https://framablog.org/2021/01/07/peertube-v3-its-a-live-a-liiiiive/
Very helpful. Thank you. Yes, that is the censorship that I am trying to get out from under.
Any recommendation for me to host Recorded Videos 200GB Storage + 3TB bandwidth. Looking for reasonable yet reliable solution. Vimeo is not supporting the bandwidth more than 500GB on $20plan. Suggest something.
@MTUser2012, if your organization is on the conservative/religious side of the aisle, the 2 names you can trust for security are @Jar (above) for his email hosting MXRoute.com and Rob Monster from Epik.com for video uploading, domain registration, & hosting. Rob is both conservative & religious & has the financial resources to keep your organization online with his own Domain Registrar & multiple datacenters around the world.
Since 2020, the most trusted YouTube clone for conservative & religious videos is:
https://Rumble.com/
Rumble is the trusted video publisher of Representative Devin Nunes, Dinesh D’Souza, Sean Hannity, and Representative Jim Jordan. Several Anti-vax content creators have gained a receptive audience on Rumble after their productions have been pulled from Youtube or Facebook including Del Bigtree, Sherri Tenpenny, and Simone Gold.
Following the 2020 US presidential election, many conservative users of Twitter and Facebook, migrated to Rumble.com
Have you tried my streaming service?

@Jar or anyone,
Please help me understand how PeerTube works, is it like bit torrent that I can allow my instance of PeerTube to be populated by all other instances? Or are some instances locked so videos can not be shared to other instances?
For example, Rob Monster said his personal PeerTube is http://US.TV
Are all instances like his & locked from others or can I set my PeerTube so anyone can add videos?
Do you suppose https://lbry.com/ will be as enduring & reliable as PeerTube? How does Lbry differ from PeerTube?
It starts at independent and you can branch out from there. This is a good summary: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PeerTube
Thank you @jar
Do you run your own PeerTube?
LBRY, like PeerTube, says it's also a decentralized peer to peer protocol. I believe Lbry may be more widely used then PeerTube.
I do. I mostly fill it with videos that get deleted elsewhere. https://video.freesocial.co/
How about good old IceCast?

I watched some if your videos & love that site!
@Jar, are you connected to the Portuguese MXRoute that has cloned your business with your logo and name? Looks like his site has temporarily gone offline but his social media is up:
https://twitter.com/MXrouteIO
https://www.linkedin.com/posts/mxrouteio_smtp-relay-service-activity-6380073416074104832-FDZu
That was split off and ultimately acquired by MailChannels.
It's a great mystery why you would allow your company to be split & sold off. You & your former partner split up & he sold his half?
You sold licensing for a European branch of MXRoute?
It’s a long story that isn’t particularly interesting. But it’s all settled, there is no MXroute.io and I own the domain again. The customers of it were merely resold MailChannels and moved from resold to direct customers.
Did you experiment with all three? If so which one did you end using?
MediaCMS seems really nice.
Peertube is interesting but it seems to me that it's not the best (if you're not interested in the p2p/federation side of things).
