Not sure if they offer the TLD, but https://njal.la/ is known for this. But, they just resell Tuscows as far as I know.
Edit: They do offer it, https://njal.la/#pricing for 30€/yr
Damn, I'm paying $2.50 yearly with porkbun. Looking to protect my privacy but that costs more than I pay for hosting in a year lol
Yeah, pricey for a novelty TLD but I had it bookmarked as I had read about them previously.
Can always just use a burner number and PO Box or something. No one is mailing you a Christmas card or calling you to tell you happy birthday.
true that, I'm probably just a little too worried about my privacy. Guess it's my fault for picking a shitty tld, but it's too late to change it now.
Is WHOIS privacy not sufficient? The registrar would have your details but it wouldn't be publicly visible.
Registrars risk losing their ICANN accreditation if they don't verify WHOIS data is legit (which is why you get annual "verify your WHOIS details" emails), so if you really don't want the registrar to know who you are, you'll likely have to use a sketchy registrar that's not ICANN accredited (most likely a reseller).
namesilo has free whois privacy+they don't check the details you give them
Avoid porkbun at all costs. Nja.la is good and privacy aware registrar. Basically they buy domain for them-self and allow you to manage it. So, if any legal issue - nja.la is on the line, not you. Of course no harmfull activities, but for example torrent sites they are way to go.
At all costs is a bit much. If you have complaints, could you share them? Then we can do our own cost benefit analysis.
They suspend domain over google security scan. At least it was year and a half back.
Njalla is not a icann-accredited registrar. Do you know their upstream provider? I suspect its Tucows
You should read who Njal.la works.
They are just middleman, they use their own information in Whois. You never will need to use your own name etc in your domain.
For this reason is not cheap, Porkbun doesn't do that! That's difference.
Njal.la sits at the middle of you, they use Tucows but the information that will be in Whois is from Njal.la (behind the proxy) also.
You are thinking about traditional registrar here. No, nja.la is not accredited. As I said, they register domains and provide control of it for user. Actual owner of that domain is nja.la, as well as liabilities...
Oh yeah, this is the other alternative I didn't mention in my comment. Someone else buys the domain and 'loans' it to you. They accept liability while letting you use it.
The big risk here is that you don't actually own the domain, so you're not in control of anything. If that company shuts down and doesn't transfer the domain for you, you'd lose the domain. You wouldn't be able to transfer it in that case, since you don't own it. It's like living in a subleased apartment where you're not actually on the lease - you usually don't really have any rights as a tenant, since you're not actually a tenant.
There's also a risk that they steal the domain from you, but if they're a legit company then that's less likely of course.
I still don't quite understand what the OP is so worried about (and why Whois privacy isn't sufficient)
"Njalla protects you from ferocious domain predators."
I find it rather amusing that this seems to be their main selling point
The way I see it if the whois is non public or masked with whois protection, it shouldn't be a issue if the registrar know your address.
when I see this kind of request the user is privacy conscious doesn't like giving his details to anyone or possibly doing something illegal and doesn't want to be linked to it with his address.
They're based in Portland, Oregon.
Portland, Oregon sucks.
I don't want my money going here.
But hypocritically, I got a good deal on a .party domain from a Porkbun promo and I have it there.
right! That's why I avoided Njalla for registering domains that run the business websites. Njalla registrar can be only good if anyone wants to throw-in hacking/cracking/pirated stuff on their sites so even if the domain is lost, its not a big deal. They can simply get a new one. But for brands or legit sites Njal.la is definitely not a good choice since you are not the owner (legally and technically) of your domain. All you get it as an illusion of owning a domain but real owners are njalla.
Can confirm. You can give whatever garbage you like and they don’t mind.
Why not to place fake address and temporary phone number? This will save your money a lot.
We now sell domains, and require no PII. We don't even ask you for a name or address, just an email to send invoices to.
namesilo for me
great. will give it a try. BTW who is your registrar for domains?
Their website says NameCheap: https://portal.incognet.io/knowledgebase/23/How-the-private-registration-works..html
NameCrane, when available. Namecheap and internet.bs for now.
Is Namesilo TOR friendly? Does Namesilo allow sign in from TOR'?
