1 upgrade storage + 1 NVME AMS pending.
Last in queue for the upgrade request ?

Not only upgrades in queue and not only AMS.
As expected, the orders are delivered even later and the corresponding announcement comes when he's already late. Very poor communication.

i still have NY and VIE pending for provision, but don't mind waiting since i already have 10 other VPSes already provisioned and ready to play with it. :)

  • Made a comment and I got all my stuff setup. Good to go. Just waiting on those juicy HK servers now.

You'll surely be "preferred" if you post your ticket # here and in parallel update your ticket with "Please check my post on LET". :joy:

Absolutely, though it's in general recommended to use the LET help desk in this thread instead of the providers ticket system for urgent and to your own product/order related issues.

@hosthatch when the time comes, how can we upgrade our instances from the OP (non flash deals)? I guess via ticket, and that the first ticket is to check availability, and only after that we recharge our funds?

    Yes exactly :)

Most important question that no-one have asked here yet...
@hosthatch when will we see updated server pictures on your facebook/twitter/somewhere? :)

Emil just flew to Amsterdam a couple hours ago to perform some maintenances, I will ask if he can take some pictures of our equipment in Equinix AM5.

(I mean they might all be photoshopped because we 'rent' dedicated servers according to some of the MIT trained mathematicians here, but will ask him anyway) :)

    @hosthatch did this happen? 🙂

It did happen, but Emil wants to make a nice looking album before sharing it. Something that looks cool like https://hosthatch.com/img/office.jpg

What's your view on getting a VM with an E5-2690 0 @ 2.90GHz CPU? I know this is a expected CPU to get with HH but I mean, it's 9 years old by now...

I know I've seen HH reply to this somewhere in this thread, stating something like because of using cheaper hardware they can avoid overselling. I'm not an expert on that so perhaps that's true.

Do you think a HH machine will have a better consistent CPU performance compared to other providers running more modern CPU's, like some AMD Epyc variant?

I think the CPU will be still powerful enough for most tasks. Not a beast but for web- or dev-server with low-to-medium usage this should be more than sufficient. Some getting the E-5-2690v2 others E5-2680v2 no big difference and I believe the only two models, at least I can't remember another yabs.

Single core GB5 score around 600-650, categorized as pretty good performance.

No, some (I) also got an E5-2690 0 so not all are v2's

So you would not choose to host a production site on a HH machine?

Ohh ok, didn't pay attention to this but I don't expect a big difference performance wise.

This is not what I mean. You can surely host a production site but it depends on what you host. If it's a complex web app to serve 100k users daily or a gameserver not but if it's a forum with a nodejs chat app, I don't see any problem. The CPU will very likely be able to handle this well.

I got two bundles, a 10x bundle and the new locations 3x bundle. The 10x one has been fully deployed now - I just got the last two VPSes, New York and Vienna this morning. The 3x one was a preorder with a delivery date of December 31.

Now I just need to figure out what to use them all for  I've added a few to dnstools.ws, but I've already got servers in some of the locations so I'll need to figure out something else to do with them.

E3 and E5 are still very common. They're decent processors. Even BuyVM were using them until their recent Ryzen upgrade. I think the fact that they're so old makes them quite cheap to acquire second-hand, so performance per dollar is very good. Honestly, if you're paying low-end prices, you can't expect brand new hardware everywhere. Most low-end providers have to cut costs somewhere in order to remain profitable or at least break even - Some use older processors, some use desktop hardware instead of enterprise hardware, etc. I've seen some providers use brand new "Xeon Gold" processors but it's rarer than E3/E5.

Strange, I saw that a single core E3-1270 has GB5 score of 790. I thought E5 is supposed to be more powerful than E3? I guess because of dedication percentage.

@orion504 said: I thought E5 is supposed to be more powerful than E3?

It is. Server CPUs are generally geared towards multi thread performance, not single thread. The E5 will definitely beat the E3 in a multithread test.

Get some IP ranges/an AS (maybe from @RickBakkr ) and run your own network ;)

Just got my last server delivered today - thanks for the great deals!
Only didn't order 3x more due to trust issues - I have this rational fear of having too many stuff on a single provider
