It's not over until poisson white-knights for you.
@M66B
If I'm not mistaken, this thread is about Paypal f_cking everyone (even more) - and not about hunting @cociu.
Good thing we have Dan from PornHub here.
Edit: Wasn't meant to be.
I am not hunting anyone. Handling disputes is just part of a business and if there are many disputes, the business owner should look at his business and not at the payment provider and his customers (although some people are just unreasonable, which you can read about everyday on LET).
I think it is good that PayPal is making this change, but they should better explain the reasons (maybe they will do later).
If the PornHub thing is supposed to be insulting, sorry, it's not. I'd be happy to be associated with them.
And I was off with my white-knight guess, it's jsg this time.
Yeah, I don't get what people are bitching about. Unless of course you plan to scam your customer, you will lose more money than ever.
Well, if @cociu doesn't start winning disputes, he will start losing money FAST. Because, well, he said it, a lot of disputes coming from him.
As long as he is winning the disputes, paypal won't charge him.
BS! That was not white-knighting and not even about cociu, he just happened to be the target. My point was that the topic has no relation with cociu specifically. Paypal is f_cking everyone even worse than before. And while, yes, some providers might have a bit more reason to be concerned, it's bad for every provider.
Btw, guess who will really be paying more ... It's going to be us, the customers.
The exact same is true for every provider or seller.
I see two highly likely outcomes, (a) the providers pass on their increased cost, and (b) the providers find ways to minimize probability of disputes, e.g. by filtering groups with a tendency to start disputes.
Finally, we should see another point too (and that's why I went against hunting any specific provider. Because that leads the focus away from the matter at hand): there will be customers who will see an invitation in Paypals change, e.g. to put pressure on providers who of course now fear disputes more. And again, it will not be the providers eating those risks/costs; they'll either adapt prices or, especially in the case of low-end providers, they will offer cheap products only for longer term like min 3 months or even a year, which btw. is also one of the few available doors out of the EU regulations.
THAT is what I'm interested in, not gossip and bashing of this or that particular provider. I'd be pleased to hear more about those aspects from you (meaning all, not you specifically) - and of course especially from providers..
Worse doesn't necessarily bad. It's a race to the bottom for a lowend providers. I don't think increasing a price is an option, UNLESS, all of the providers decided to do so. Now, that's a time for a concern.
That is correct, although I've seen this being a practice for some large businesses and they even mention it at the checkout page that using PayPal the price will increase by 1%-5% which is pretty weird considering I knew as well that's against their ToS.
As already explained by others, the chargeback fee is not that bad and if you run a reasonable business most of the time you will not need to pay it.
And the inactivity fee only applies to completely inactive accounts which still have credit on them, so not nice but not outrageous either.
It is allowed in some markets (like Europe).
Use merchant instead, plenty better options than PayPal!
What's all the fuss about? Don't like paypal fees - don't use them. If you prefer charge cards with higher standards, use them. If you say you can't survive without paypal customers- then learn how to mitigate risk and/or calculate it as a cost of doing business- like taxes and filing fees and vat and salaries etc etc. Apparently paypal doesnt want to absorb 100% of large losses - can you blame them?
Yeah I don’t lose many that I don’t choose to lose (like obvious stolen PayPal account and I overlooked it at order time). I’d share why I don’t lose them but I don’t want to put that out there because it may teach people to turn that around
