liteserver.nl rocks since some time for exit nodes https://yui.cat/as/AS60404/
is responsible for ~1562.46 MB/s of traffic, with 3 middle relays and 73 exit relays
more as nforce, leaseweb or even frantech :P
Plus helping criminals don't forget that
Nope. Sorry, already forgotten. I enjoy privacy.
So what happened to @William after he was arrested?
He got released and charges were dropped, because it was proven that he was just hosting Tor exit nodes.
The problem was not the charge itself, but the fact that police raided his house and took all computers, smartphones, tablets, and storage devices, from his house with court decision; these were searched and analyzed for any evidence which could incriminate him.
Meanwhile he also got charged for some weed of personal use which was discovered at his place while raiding, creating the foundation for a different case related to consumption and possible distribution of weed. Not to mention he was asked multiple times about firearms found at his place (for which he had license).
Hosting Tor exit nodes is not that bad, but can lead to inconveniences in answers and explanations to authorities, while also the risk of your house being raided by police agents. A person hosting Tor exit nodes needs to be prepared to answer questions and requests from police, or from internet service provider.
With that in mind, please note this topic is about Tor relay nodes, not exit nodes.
Thanks for the information.. I would just stay away from this considering how dumb Indian police can be.
In honor of this thread, I moved a couple tutorials on LEB around so this one would appear today:

I was convicted years later under the reasoning that the provider privilege does not apply to natural persons (it now does, and i.e. in US/DE etc. always did), it's.. complex. No jail, no fine, only probation, no record.
I paid a 250EUR fine for the weed and other drugs (some hash) - The default for any weed offence below insane amounts (20g pure THC), it's set at 250EUR as most lawyers charge similar so they hope you just pay.
At the time rifles required no license in Austria - all my firearms were registered to me at this address and stored safely (living alone the entire flat is considered safe).
I had to answer some questions about the amount of ammo found and origin of some specific (7.62x54R Full metal jacket rounds, legal to own but not legal to buy/sell without a license), but below 20000 (IIRC) rounds no special registration or storage is needed.
All around very unpleasant and insanely expensive (20kEUR+) experience.
Wil! Dude, you are alive!
did not hear story about @William what happened?

omg. Is he okay now? or he is back on business? I am planning to offer an exit node next month. After reading this I will not continue. This is crazy. Almost. I hope the guy is okay now.
This was 2011-2014/2015.
Ultimately i simply left Austria and moved to the mediterranean coast. After ups and downs i'm engaged and have a well paid US remote job, putting us well into upper class here. Life turns out weird sometimes.
Life is awesome. I am happy for you. Coming up next: family.
20k paid in lawyers?
Primarily Lawyers/Legal advisory costs plus replacing hardware (eg. i got my laptop finally back 3+ years later). IIRC about 1/3rd was covered by donations.
Very happy to hear that things are getting better, sir. We all go through our "wtf" moments when young, so its important to learn and grow from that point up.
hardware aside, did you not have legal protection insurance or did they refuse to pay? I talked with mine and after explaining it a bit, they wrote me that they would cover a legal battle, i just would have to pay a 250€ one time fee.
They didn't download any image/video, as explained in the cited article:
The researchers’ automated web crawler downloaded only text, not pictures, to avoid any illegal possession of child pornographic images or video.
How bad are those 5 bad apples? Should we compare it with how bad child porn is?
It's must have public ip v4 or not?
maybe i can help to run relay
it must have public ipv4 and should have ipv6
The end is nigh (for some people here).
I also got raided because a guy shared cp over one of my exit nodes.
For german speaking folks:

https://tarnkappe.info/tor-exit-node-niederbayerischer-schueler-erhaelt-hardware-zurueck/
I do not encourage people to operate an exit node unless you know what you are getting your hands on.
Fuck that. Seriously, take it and make sexy-time to it. There's no way anyone could ever get me to run a tor node of ANY sort. Way too much cp shit is on there, and I believe there are better ways for journalists and whistleblowers to access internet securely and anonymously enough*.
Both of those articles seem overkill and fishy.
