I'll take a look at CSF, we use cpguard for our waf rules etc...
@DA_Mark any chance of an admin 'email - track and trace'
Where we see a list of the domains how many emails have come in and out, then you can click on the domain to see a list of the emails showing "from, to, subject, date, time, status'" ?
I use both CSF and CPGuard on my DA servers. Did some testing with CPG team for OLS when they released v3 for DA. I really like CPG.
CPGuard: add another $6/month per VPS. No thanks, you're OK.
Where did you get the idea CSF is a replacement WAF? It's complimentary.
@experttechit
Any way to add remote backup capabilities via sftp? Currently only option I see is ftp or local folder.
I am talking as an end user.. i do not want to setup and maintain a ftp server... when I have several VPS that are idling and could be out to use with sftp/ scp?
Thnx

This has been working really well for us:)
I use CSF and cPGuard. It is great! they are always bringing out new features and it it so light weight.
yep it works very well. Just remember to install git and sshpass.
That one seems doable but requires a bit more work so could you make sure it's posted to feedback.da with exactly all the fields/info you would like to see?

Big woof! Thanks man
I've miss few functions i have with cPanel in DA. That's why i've sent some feedbacks. DirectAdmin look and feel is way better, but some "simple things" are more complicated (or not supported) by DA (hello Let's Encrypt!), yet. Pretty sure with this thread we will get something that will fit most of us!
I feel Let's Encrypt in DA is very simple. Choose your domain, your key length and type and click Save.
DirectAdmin is awesome. Mark and Martynas are superb. Miguel loves DA. DA loves Miguel.

DA has really made some changes Over the last year, although there are over 140+ requests still, it would be interesting to see which bits get used.
Ohhh... would you know it would work for your Shared hosting? Atleast my account currently does not have that.
For the client end, it is actually not available as the ports are hard coded, that can't be setup dynamically. So if you ssh port is different vs what we have as predefined, you won't be able to connect
Its 22 for me.
So on my reseller shared hosting package with you, how to configure it. Thnx
Can’t boss. Our backup server has a non standard port setup
.
Ahh. Ok. Any other alternative? I really don't want to open up a ftp instance for saving my and client sites? Thnx
Pop in a ticket boss. I will give you a custom port no
.
Or alternatively, you can be a little bit creative. Generate local backup and setup a scp transfer via cron
Unfortunetely no, it's not good. It's not a good practice to have the same cert for multiple subdomains, this is where DA is not good. As an advanced user, my first goal was to have 1 different cert for each subdomain (only @ is with www) ; while in cPanel it's possible in DA you can't. You select what subdomains your LE cert will include and that's all. If you have "all in one" cert and it get a breach, all your subdomains related to this cert will be touched. Yeah sure, in practice, it's not that often to happen...
Hello just add the subdomains as regular domains and then you can have separate certs. Easily.
That way if the main domain gets breached your subdomains are not affected at all. Each subdomain would have its own configuration and path.
With Cpanel all of the domains and subdomains are part of the main domain and if that one main domains gets hacked then ALL of your domains and subdomains are hacked. Its very careless and reckless.
Thanks for pointing that out, Floyd! With DirectAdmin, you can use the traditional subdomain feature which is not that big of a deal. It just creates a DNS record and directory for the subdomain, under the main domain.
DirectAdmin also allows you to create a subdomain as if it was a regular domain. Aside from SSL, it means your subdomain also has it's own databases, e-mail accounts, etc. No different than if it was a another domain.
I suppose the only drawback is someone using our Personal license which is limited to 10 domains. If you create a subdomain with the same features as a traditional domain, then it counts towards that 10 domain limit.
Virtualmin isnt meant for commercial hosting? Mmm they have enterprise licences.
Not feedback??? Subjective. For me what i said counts as a feedback.
I have nothing personal with DA, its just my honest opinion. I work with all these panel on a daily basis.
I wish DA and its people all the very best!
Oh and by the way, we had a couple of users wanting to go back to cPanel from DA. They wanted the reduced cost but then again didnt want to get used to DA.
And @DA_Mark I use virtualmin pro, not the free version. For 50 domains its 9usd a month.
As far as subdomains (and for that matter "addon" domains and "parked/alias" domains - why can't all of these fit under one umbrella? And just call them extra domains or domains.
DirectAdmin actually allows this to happen - or can allow it to happen. On our DirectAdmin servers - we removed the icon for "subdomains" and "parked domains" (was their an icon for parked domains? I can't remember, it's been a while ago). And just have the "Domain setup" icon in user's panels. From there they can "Add New" domain name - and that "domain name" can be a totally different domain name or it can be a "sub" domain. There's no difference whether if a "sub" domain is created here or through a "sub" domain link - the end result is the same.
We made this move not so much for subdomains, but more for parked/alias domains.
Since every website moved to needing a secure certificate, then I always believed the prudent move was to get away from appending a never-ending list of domains to a VirtualHost's ServerAlias line (Apache terms, the concept is the same even if you use nginx or Litespeed). Because every time you added (or removed) a domain name to that ServerAlias line... the secure certificate had to be regenerated adding the necessary new domain names to the SAN of that certificate. Not to mention the headache that happened when that certificate had to be renewed and some but not all of those ServerAliases were registered and still pointing to the server. It just made better sense, to me, for all of those "ServerAliases" to have their own VirtualHost and therefore their own certificate and then it became easier to knock those certificates off if they were no longer pointing to the server or if a new one was added.
For what it's worth... I believe DirectAdmin did update some of their configuration settings some time back - "force parked domains to create their own VirtualHost" or something like that. But I already had my setup in motion, so I never really look at the DirectAdmin option that much.
@DA_Mark
DA creates a default email address ([email protected]) when a new DA user account is created. How can I delete this email address and inbox? There's links to purge/empty emails but I can't entirely delete this email ID (as I don't use it but it gets lots of spam and my inode usage goes up!)
