Congrats on your first post
@seriesn Not sure about 3 but I can definitely get it to 0 with a bit of abstract algebra and a simple two element field:
1 + 1 != 1 (contradiction)
∴ the only other option left is 0 (1 + 1 = 0) so it must be true!!
Edit: well, if you can’t get 1 + 1 = 0 in the reals but pff. It’s been a while since I’ve done this joke — my apologies if I made a mistake
As for common core — they have good intentions but they’re doing a poor job of teaching it. I learned math in a more traditional sense, so it would be a “plug n’ chug” sort of question where I would automatically just write the problem out using the standard/regular algorithm.
Having said that, once it became necessary to perform mathematical operations mentally, it became clear that using the standard algorithm == (essentially) impossible. So, we all eventually learned to break problems down; in the case of 3512, a simple way to break it down would be 3012 = 360 followed by 5*12 = 60. Add them both up and you have 420 — it’s not exactly the same as the “common core” method but it is a far better way of computing than mindlessly doing the generic table/algo.
I don’t quite understand why they want students to write out a bunch of steps (for a question that should’ve been easy to do mentally), but my two cents boils down to:
Once you understand how something works, you should be free to use any method you’d like to solve a problem (within reason).
*Note: I was taught in Canada many years ago so I’m not really up to speed about the whole “common core” thing
😂😂
Math is definitely fun heh
So many low end mathematicians
Low end math like low end VPS. Not quite adding up.
it does
proof: i don't have any low end VPSes anymore apart from EVM
What's your definition of low end VPSes?
<$7
Only one? Rich.
can i avail this offer too !?
i am still looking hostdoc alternate, please sir,
As long as you are eligible, sure .
Details on the first post.
The teacher's job is to teach the curriculum that the school board provides. They need a consistent way to measure the students understanding of the concepts taught. So having to show rudimentary work for simple step problems is just a way to confirm the concepts being taught are being learned. The really smart teachers will explain this (being sympathetic to the smarter kids who feel annoyed and slowed down by writing steps when the answer just comes in their heads) and how there's lots of ways to solve problems (ie, speed math techniques) and encourage multiple ways to look and solve problems in life.
What's up good people, shamelessly bumping this. 2 more days to go. If you were thinking about picking one up, don't wait.
This is just basic Algebra.
Assume that x = y
Start:
x = y
Multiple both sides by y:
x * y = y * y
Note that y*y is y_squared:
x * y = y^2
Subtract x_squared from both sides:
x * y - x^2 = y^2 - x^2
Factor "x" on the left side of equation:
x * (y-x) = y^2 - x^2
Factor the right side of the equation. Remember: a^2 - b^2 = (a+b) * (a-b):
x * (y-x) = (y + x) * (y - x)
Divide both sides by "y-x":
x = (y+x)
Remember the assumption above? Since x = y, replace the "y" with "x":
x = (x + x)
Divide both sides by x:
1 = 2
Add "1" to both sides:
2 = 3
Replace "2" with "1+1".
THEREFORE:
-> 1+1 = 3 Proven!
I want to compliment you on a clever thread title for this advertisement. @seriesn
Why thank you sir. Appreciate it
Just want to say thanks to my babe @seriesn he just hooked me up good and proper. Look at this fucking BEAST.......
Thanks again for hooking me up broski when I needed it
Now that is some serious hardware, grab yourself a VM from NB.
Jesus Murphy! 1.1T of nvme? Noooooooice!! :-)
To arrive at this step, you divided by 0, so this was a no-go
But clever
Yes sir, no point in doing things half arsed, go big or go home
Haha very nice! That's gotta be making you happy in the panda pants. Fkn 1tb of nvme is prem af. Looks like LA? Giggity :-)
Very happy in the panda pants. Yes and very quick NVMe too. Yep LA with some fantastic speeds
He gotta store is panda memes somewhere 😅
Welcome to the family my monochromatic brother :-) We're location buddies!
Rofl the world's most prem meme storage stack (ryzen + nvme + NB)
Just curious, how did he get that much storage?
He confidently paid for it
Assuming he got the VPS-4G which has the 4vCPU + 4gb ram + 80gb storage (@ 1yr prepay) he still needs 1.02 TB of storage. There is a fee of $2/15gb which means...
He paid a gazillion Zimbabwe Dollors!
Under the table deals.
Jord is ze highest paid Panda in ze world :-P. Unless bamboo shoots are a bartering tool (likely, Jord has prem booz)
