  • I'm finally about to use the discounted storage VPS I got last BF. While re-installing the OS, I noticed the following in the panel: Rebuild Usage: 0 of 1 (1 free).

Does that mean that there's a fee when I try to re-install the OS next time? Has it been @VirMach's policy ever since?

Never had this issue as I reinstalled OS several times but mine is not storage VPS and may be this policy only applies to storage VPS (although it doesn't make sense)?
Only VirMach can clear this point.

  • @alilet
Yup, I can confirm that this only applies to storage VPS (at least for MY storage VPS) as my other VPSes don't have this notice.

  • I doubt @VirMach would limit reinstall like that. But it may be about the 2TB limit on template. This would require manual reinstall from ISO. But this is most likely a error in WHMCS while deploying.

    Quite a sad day.....

Was time to clean up my idle hoard since I just picked up a powerful dedi elsewhere. Still have 2 KVM's and 2 dedi's left that are being put to work (not all of us idle  ). Given my lack of self control, I'll probably end up drunk purchasing half a dozen cheap servers during black friday this year, so VirMach is likely to win back my business anyways lol.

Edit: People talk about post-nut clarity, but the real thrill is post-cancellation clarity.

Also, could we please get a bench of that I9 beast when you get a chance?

Will do, my friend. Waiting on a reinstall to make the SSD the boot drive as there was a small mixup when I relayed the desired partitioning scheme.

Any limits we have on re-installs are soft limits. If SolusVM handled re-installs better, we wouldn't have to do this but certain services or operating systems don't play well if customer(s) decide they want to do a lot of re-installs concurrently or in succession.

In any of these cases, you can contact our support for a re-install.

  • This is heartbreaking, but I think I'll be cancelling my storage VPS.

I might be doing something wrong, but a simple (initial) rsync of my Linux ISOs slowly climbed from 50% to 100% CPU (says HetrixTools) until it got powered off. VirMach tech says it actually used 800+% CPU (which really baffled me)!

  • rsync does a lot of hashing (for checksums) with a new bunch of files

Someone in another recent thread suggested using the cpulimit command (for any number pf similar scenarios, not just with rsync) - might be worth a try

Also if doing rsync via ssh - and/or using encrypted disk - it can help (just a little bit) to have the AES flag enabled on the CPU - that's something support may be willing to do for you. And maybe see what they have to say if you let them know you might want to try again this time using cpulimit

    Good luck with your rsync!

  • This thread is full of surprises and useful stuff, this is crazy.

  • can storage ever be truly "idle" while it is online though?
