Sandstorm Oasis is Shutting Down

For those still on oasis, time to make it selfhosted - https://sandstorm.io/news/2019-09-15-shutting-down-oasis

  • I appreciate their frankness:

Indeed, today, there’s almost no reason to prefer Oasis over a self-hosted Sandstorm server. Consider:

A similarly-priced server on Digital Ocean running Sandstorm will load apps much faster than Oasis does, while giving you 5x the storage space.

  • TLDR: the paid hosted SaaS edition of Sandstorm is no more.
Self-hosting on your own cheap KVM is always an option.

Not really, most softs have not been updated since 2016... It's dead and not maintained anymore

  • There are only a handful apps that are still being updated. Most are not, unfortunately.

  • The lead dev kenton answered some of the questions here - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20979428 . He expects security updates to be still released but also is clear that he does not want people "relying" on any support or any other features because he is busy.

One comment in that thread suggested BitNami, NextCloud, Cloudron, Yunohost as other options
