Need best price per processor performance for CPU video encoding
I'm doing Constant Rate Factor video encoding with ffmpeg on linux. The server will be spending all of it's time processing videos. It pulls a video from a remote system, encodes it, sends the new version back.
Thus, I just need the most processing for the buck.
ffmpeg seems to be using 4 cores and 3 GB RAM per encode. So I suppose that evaluates to 1 encode per 4 cores + 4 GB RAM (OS needs some too...).

I guess a good starting point would be an i7-3770 or i7-4770 at Hetzner for ~25EUR/28USD. Also check out https://drserver.net/dedicated.php
If you're going to buy a CPU the new Ryzen CPUs look pretty enticing. https://www.anandtech.com/show/14605/the-and-ryzen-3700x-3900x-review-raising-the-bar/10
Some performance per dollar charts: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-3700x/22.html
@devicifer whats your budget?
The new Ryzens are just insane, but I don't know of any affordable dedis with them yet. If you're doing really high volume transcoding maybe you can consider a GPU server too, depending on the format.
We have some Xeon® E-2136 systems ready to go. Those should be good value for the money as we are renting them for only $70 USD per month
15000 passmark for $70 isnt bad!
If you can use GPU for encoding please check our RX480 server for $35/mo, otherwise there is 8 core VPS for $20/mo which can be used for enconding - wishosting.com
The $12 8-core in your signature isn't for encoding? Shared vs dedicated?
Per the order page it is out of stock. Also 8 dedicated cores at $12 (or $20) isn't going to happen, unless Atom cores or the like. OP may be better off with a dedicated server.

If Atom is in question we have few 8 core Atom servers ready for delivery. But i would really question ability of that cpu to do some serious encoding.
The Atom offer is impressive but I agree it's not what you want for encoding. I was tempted by it til remembering I have an i5 in Canada.
That one is out of stock at the moment.
Here are some dedicated servers, sorted by price per benchmark score:

And here are some servers with a GPU, if you're able to make use of that:

Hope this helps.
What CPU benchmark did you used for comparison?
Since Passmark wants $800 USD/year, we're using a combination of Geekbench and Userbenchmark.
@ServerHunter I am asking because Core i7 7800 (23331) have better score than Dual e5-2670v2 (20728)
The score used to be per CPU, but I just changed it to be multiplied by the CPU amount. It should make more sense now.
Epic deal.
Built-in Intel HD graphics counts as a GPU? Heh. I haven't been trying to run passmark but instead just use the numbers from their table, http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php .
